Are deadlifts overrated for hypertrophy?

definitely. it's an important exercise, but it's a fucking circlejerk in lifting forums.
Hypertrophy is really something that depends on volume. Usually deadlifts are done for singles or triples or sets of 5. The volume is kept low so the weight is kept high.

why would u think deadlifting makes u bigger, it doesnt and its not supposed to.
but it will make u alot stronger and believe me ive seen little skellies in the gym deadlift 2 plates and then some fat fuck from plg comes up after him and cant even budge the weight

Aside from the hamstrings and glutes, it's working your muscles isometrically, so it's not as effective as concentric or eccentric work for muscles. You'll get bigger lats with weighted chinups, bigger upper traps with heavy shrugs, better mid and lower traps with rows and better spinal erectors with weighted hypers.
Deadlifts have a high risk of injury as well

The conventional deadlift is pretty useless. Different version are useful though. Don't get caught up in ego lifting.

only if you're retarded and have bad form
Depends how you look at it. Deadlifts are fantastic for your spinal erectors and core which translates better support for your ohp and rows which are presumably important for someone looking to get aesthetic. Plus they give a lot of work to traps, hamstrings, and glutes. Deadlifts will be less important than presses, chins, and rows but they can still be a useful tool for looking better and bigger.

Depends on what kind of hypertrophy. Deadlifts won't give you big pecs or arms, but in terms of glute and hamstring hypertrophy it's one of the best exercises out there.
But the deadlift isn't a bodybuilding movement, it's primarily to make you strong, there are very few real life strength appilactions where having a strong deadlift isn't an advantage
Some classic phyisque twinks never do deadlifts because ''OH NOES THEY WIDEN YOUR WAIST'', despite the fact that both Arnold, Zane and fucking Zyzz deadlifted.

Makes a valid argument, though high volume deadlifting isn't entirely unheard of, Jesse Norris does ridiculous amounts of deadlift volume, but then again, he's probably on steroids.

Also makes a valid point, although I'd have to somewhat disagree about erectors, seeing as how erectors are pretty much always worked isometrically

These two are retarded
TL;DR: Strictly speaking not needed for hypertrophy, although still recommended

Every decent deadlifted I know has had to deal with injuries
