When I was a kid doing martial arts, out instructors swore by this pushup and we weren't allowed to do open-palm ones.
Is there some benefit to it?

supposedly strengthens the wrists or something like that for better punching
It toughens your knuckles and eventually you'll become used to the pain, which in turn allows you to punch harder without injuring yourself.

Isn't an armless pushup just a squat?
Open palm hurts my wrists for some reason. Knuckle push-ups feel more natural by having everything straight. It could just be a personal preference though

I mean you can get like a couple inches deeper, and your wrist does't bend if you have wrist problems.
Honestly it doesnt really make a difference. Just use parallettes or dumbbells if you hate normal ones

Well duh, if you wanna do punching you better strenghten your wrists and knuckles
