I've had a lot of good nights on the lash but like 20 times as many shit ones.

Drinking really started taking over the past year and after a particularly bad binge I swore off it for good. Best decision I think I've ever made.

Pretty much every stupid thing I've ever done, every failure, every embarrassment has been directly related to drinking.
If I needed any more persuasion to stop I started getting hives on my shoulders.

When I think back on all the money I've blown, the friends I've lost, the physical harm I've come to, the fucking pussy I've missed out on... I can't believe it took me so long to see it for what it is.

I feel much better now. The silly thing is in social situations I'm just as comfortable without it now. I was fooled into believing I needed it to have a laugh. It turns out when I'm around friends who are drinking I slip into that same socially lubricated state of mind anyway.

If you're asking yourself whether or not you should quit... You probably should. Give it a solid month of total sobriety and see how it suits you. It's tough to figure out how to enjoy yourself at first but it gets better.

I didn't show up to the job interview shitfaced. It started as a normal job interview and I did really well and they thought I was incredibly funny so they suggested we go out for drinks together afterwards. I can't really emphasize enough how well it had gone. One interviewer had happened to go to the same small liberal arts college in another state that I had. Another interviewer had worked in the same location as I had, again in different state, and we had a lot of the same friends in common. It was unreal.

They didn't just seem eager to hire me, they seemed eager to be my friend. I am rarely charming, but I was firing on all cylinders for some reason.

I had already known about my alcohol problems and hadn't had a drink in something like 5 years, but I was afraid it would make a bad impression if I didn't drink at least a little so I resolved to have 2 or 3 drinks and just nurse them slowly. But the problem is, I have no trouble not drinking at all, but once I start, I can't stop until I black out. It's like a switch is hit.

I remember it going well at first and one of the interviewers told me I for sure should start packing my bags because I would be working for them soon. I remember playing shuffleboard badly.

Then at some point I woke up on a public bathroom floor covered in vomit. I remember trying to clean myself off but I think it was mostly just me throwing water on myself while kneeling in front of the sink.

I was in a different bar that I didn't recognize. If the interviewers were there, I couldn't find them (unlikely because the bar was empty) and I didn't see anyone I knew or recognized, but I was so drunk who knows. I asked the bartender to call me a cab. I remember having trouble getting into the cab and the driver had to help.

I got a call a week later telling me they had decided to go in another direction. Neither of us mentioned the night out at the bar so I'm still unsure exactly what happened.

Well I rarely drink, maybe 2-3 a year that I get drunk off straight vodka with friends, 1 of those times usually is actually fun, the others meh. This is how I feel. It's muchhh less difficult to be drunk while all the lads are cracking fast-wit jokes together and you can barely mumble out a few words. I don't mind being the 'quiet one', but drinking helps me out of my shell massively and makes me feel good to be out of it.

Beer, Liqour and Wine all taste great if you're drinking quality and having a few every so often isn't going to fuck your gains up and is a great social activity. Been clean and sober for over 7 months. Been lifting for almost 6.

Used to work out when I was still drinking/partying and it took me two years to make the gains I've made in this amount of time sober. Alcohol kills your gains, and I'm an addict so moderation is completely out of the question. Also much easier to make healthy eating decisions when I don't have the munchies or want to nurse a coke binge hangover with greasy cheeseburgers and Rockstars.
