Doing 3x5 is fine, and should be done. Rest periods can get pretty long towards the end. When I was at the end of LP, I was resting 10 minutes between sets. Get some extra upper body volume from accessories though.

The word gripped refers to the bar so if the plates were gripped I think it would be likely for a referee to say you didn't grip the bar.

Shear forces are a pretty good way of crippling yourself, so maybe thats what he was going for.

It might not be bad if he has a neutral back as that reduces shear by like 10x. Or if he doesn't do this often and doesn't deadlift frequently.

Though with shear forces of over 2k N, maybe 2.5k+ N for lifters, he's at risk of injury regardless of fatigue, as that's the average failing load for humans.

I literally never have met anyone training for powerlifting for more than a couple years who isn't totaling at least 1000 pounds.

With the exception of one guy I know who is bench only because he basically has polio in his legs.

If someone is a healthy male above the age of 16 or 17 and has been training for a year and can't hit a thousand pounds needs to seriously consider rock collecting but they might want to hire somebody to help them pick up the Rocks because that sounds like it's too heavy.

Nah, it was definitely fucking with me, but it wasn't just the thickness, which made it rest a bit higher and just be less stable overall. It was also stupidly spinny and the plates would spin like made from the slightest movement. It made controlling the descent awful for bench and squat, and it reaggravated my tendinitis somewhat during squatting.

Then do 5x3-5 for the other upper movement (ohp). Then whatever small accessory you have time for. Lats, arms, abs.

Sessions are less than an hour, low volume, decent intensity, opportunities for rep prs, and decently low stress.

I tried to push strength, but following a real strength program is tough, your schedule gets fucked in half. There's two approaches that I think work: one is basically 5/3/1 plus a bunch of bodybuilding, the other would be to pick one major press and one major squat/pull and go hit them for some sets in the 3-5 rep range a few times a week, whenever you can.

I tried doing stuff like Texas method which just doesn't work when you're running and rucking three or four times a week and getting sent into the field for a week at a time. Something like a 6-8 week cycle is pretty much out the window.
