But your success with sumo depends on a lot of things, like mobility and if your quads are strong but your back is a weakpoint, and some people (Nuckols) have analysed both lifts in depth and concluded that they are pretty much tied in power level. But since they require different levels of strength for different muscles, some people end up being stronger in one than in the other.

If you check the world records, most are conventional. And the medals are evenly split between sumo and conventional pullers, from what I've seen.

Now, should... I think everyone should at least learn how to do it and test it for a while. Then you'll quickly find out which one you prefer.
It is more difficult to learn and perform well than the conventional, in terms of technique.

Definately look into it, I had the same mentality and was bull-headed, eventually regretted it because the belt never 'broke in' the way I thought it would. Used a friends broken 10mm a year or so ago and really enjoyed the feel without unnecessary rigidity digging into my torso, along with less energy to get into and out of the belt.

We were talking about Candito's jump. You said it was caused by lowbar squats (lol), we pointed out he:

- had stopped training plyo
- had injured his foot
- went up a weightclass

He has said explicitly that low bar has stopped him from dunking before his injury because he was less athletic.

The article shows that low-bar has it's place in power-lifting and possibly strongman, not athletics for optimal performance. If you have a problem with what was stated watch his videos and argue with him directly. Argue with the author of that article.

I don't know. I would probably say no because big sports like handegg have a large pool of people, so they can test and pick the highest jumpers (which is kind of what they do).

Powerlifting on the other hand, has very few athletes in comparison.

But still, elite powerlifters like Jesse Norris can probably jump as high as weightlifters and other athletes.

Highbar IS an effective strength training exercise, it's just not as good for general total strength as low bar. High bar MIGHT be optimal for a very advanced lifter who wants to train specifically knee extensors with heavier weights than he could front squat, with diminished hamstring contraction involved in giving the weight upward momentum.

No tard on /fit/ should be high bar squatting.
