How are so many people conned into buying supplements?

If you ask anyone who is actually in impressive shape/looks like they lift they all just say to eat whole foods and at most take a multi.

Yet the gym/this forum/fucking everywhere is filled with twinks lugging around their shakers everywhere with them. The supplement business is booming like never before and I can't think of any other community that has this level of misinformation.

Even to this day you'll see dyels spouting bro science about needing 1lb of protein per 1lb of LBM when in reality you never need to go over 120g a day.

Also OP you are wrong in the fact that 1g of protein per day (0.8g technically) is a broken telephone level tip that is constantly used out of context and that is in relation to MAINTAINING OR INCREASING MUSCLE MASS ALONGSIDE A BULK DIET.

You actually need more protein while cutting, whilst removing carbs and excessive fats (you need fat to a degree regardless of intended outcome) to lean up and cut unwanted weight.

I take a fair amount of supplements, a proper multivitamin with a meal or in the morning with water/coffee several hours before my workout.

Supplements are not a con, however they aren't a magical remedy and certainly aren't roids. In my opinion, supplements are a person to person basis and to be honest with you I started using more supplements as the years went by. At first I just took preworkout, creatine, and semi-regular protein.

At about 4-5 years in natty gains are hard to come by weight wise, however I redistributed a lot of my weight and "reshaped" myself via bodybuilding to create something I wanted more to be like.

The thing is you'd be in just as good shape if you didn't take these supps and just lifted like you do with good dieting, but some company wouldn't have made literal thousands of dollars off you for nothing.

There's a reason so many people who take the same supps don't have results, because they are a con. You can get the results but it's not due to you chugging down milk powder.

That's a different thing all together and I completely agree, but I'm talking about people spending hundreds of dollars a month on supplements when you could stroll down to the store and buy a fucking carton of eggs.

I have literally made enormous body proportion, form, and mental/personal gains while taking the supplements I take.

While some can be attributed to placebo affect, the fact is when OFF those supplements I can physically feel the difference. I sleep better, I look better, I feel better, and I make better gains consistently vs when I cut out those supps. Say the extra 1 1/2 scoops of recovery BCAA which allows me to do intermittent fasting properly without wasting away. Or the ZMA for better sleeps and minimal or increased optimization of hormone levels naturally. I could list the other stuff but I do it in other threads.

This is in comparison to people I was originally smaller than and people who started working out before me or taught me things originally. I can guarantee you with my current levels of supplements I wouldn't be able to maintain 4-5 days a week of my current programming. If I was, it would be accompanied by a diet that would cost the same amount in food or close to on an averaged basis.

i eat whole foods and still take supplements because i don't want to eat salmon every day or ingest thousands of additional calories to get the simple 40 grams of protein from powder. studies have shown that supplementation has the same desirable effect as eating the whole food so....
