Any dog is an alpha dog if you train it right. The question is what do you plan to do? Because 99% of shelter dogs end up in shelters because dipshits like you go buy an "alpha" dog and 1 year later you end up with a 100 pound, untrained, mess of an animal that bites you and destroys your property, so you end up giving it away.

Made the mistake of getting a rescue, four times. Shetland Sheepdog (too old now), GSD mix (Total bro but too old now), Alaskan malamute mix (cunt, will not run on a leash), Chow mix (my favorite, total bro even runs with me but will attempt to attack anyone within a 500 foot radius of us). I have a lot of experience with dogs, trying to work through their issues but I know Chows will be Chows. My next dog is going to be a GSD from a breeder.

OP you seem to already have everything planned, but for any other anons here, either get a hunting/agricultural dog that is bred for utility not aesthetics or a mutt. Hell, if at all possible, avoid a purebred altogether. I love purebred dogs, but a lot tend to have health problems down the line. Look up the King Charles spaniel and syringongelia. A lot of purebreds are just inbred dogs built for human aesthetics that have no utility to them and often end up being handicaps. Adopt a cute lil' mutt pupper and save yourself the medical expenses and heartbreak.

I'm not sure a husky is the best running dog unless a person lives in a cold weather state. I owned a Husky/Akita mix with pure demon like ice white eyes. I could not even walk him in summer until the sun went down.

Too much fur and just way, way too hot in California.

I think people should get dogs based off the breed's over all temperament and if it's a good fit for your life style. Too many people get a certain breed just based off looks. That's not always a good fit.

I also suggest getting a pound/spca rescue dog. Even if you have to keep checking the local shelter once a week for a few months until you find a dog you really like.

You wanna go running/hiking for miles at a time? Get a heeler, collie, or poodle. They're all high endurance and if hiking, can carry their own supplies and some of yours.

You just want to lift and maybe walk the dog for 30 minutes a day? Greyhound or low energy small breeds.

You want your dog to be a lifter too? Look into weight pulling and get a Bouvier des Flanders, Mastiff, or Malinois.

I've got a border collie mix. Dude is gorgeous. Smart af, does hand stands with me, knows tricks I didn't even try hard to teach, and has to run at least every other day so best motivation. He's great for hunting. When he catches something's scent he gets my attention then gets low and prowls after slow like a damn cat to help me corner it without scaring. Or I can shoot a duck and he'll bring it back without tearing. Dogs best damn dog I've ever seen.

Huskies were bred to be in a working group of other dogs.

You need to make sure you are prepared to spend nearly all day with a huskie. They require your attention at all times and need to be physically and socially stimulated. Their high energy and playfulness is not suited to being left at home for long periods of time or you're asking to have your belongings and furniture chewed up.


Having said that, if you are able to provide that attention then by all means think about getting a huskie mix. They are a rewarding dog that will be loyal if trained properly.

In my experience I get more female attention walking huskys and german shepards. I walk dogs.

He doesn't take her seriously whatsoever and when he goes into one of his hyperactive episodes he will never listen to her. If I'm around I'll come in and get all stern, and he'll straighten up for a little bit, then shortly after I go he's back to being a little fuck.

I'm gonna be buying a nice little 2-3 acre plot of land soon, and I wanted to buy a pair of huskies as guard doggos. After reading the thread, I am not going to. The whole point of having guard doges for me is that I can't be home much aside from maybe weekends. I work a lot of hours, and on top of it attend uni. In addition to all this, I want to set up a pond or two because I'm a huge /aq/fag.

So here's the question: considering my current commitments and situation, what kind of dog would be best suited for me as a good, loyal, obedient guard dog that I can come home every night, play with for an hour or so, dedicate more time to on the weekends, and won't make my property into a warzone? I have a friend with three. One sat and watched him in the kitchen one day. Saw him get a tub of flour out of a cabinet. The next day, when left alone for a few hours, the bastard dog went back to that cabinet, opened it, dragged the flour tub out, and opened it.

42,5 kg of muscle, but very calm and friendly, never barked in the house. Loyal family dog, caring of the newborns.
In the nearby woods there were lots of people with dogs, often badly raised. Male dogs would come up to him aggressively to test him. He just pushed them to the ground to expose neck and throat, then went on. Very protective if such dogs came near me.
Always got a handfull of treats after his victory, seemed very proud then.
Could walk/jog with him for hours, high energy.

German Shepherds or rottweilers are the all rounders. Both are affectionate and intelligent, im biased towards german Shepherds since I've always grown up with them, even have a picture of me as a 1 year old sleeping next to 2 of them.
Bull mastiff arent high energy but are very intimidating, loyal and affectionate but they are expensive since they eat alot. Also you cant get 2 males or other dogs around them.
They are best for fenced properties and shouldn't roam.

You need a permit for the caucasian mountain dog in some american counties.

That being said no dog is born as a watchdog, you still have to train them and mentally stimulate them daily. My gsds were never indoor dogs always had them free roam my backyard (0.5 acre) and they were happy.

she has her kennel which she loves so night time or going out of the house is a breeze as she just sleeps there. when she's left alone she doesn't wreck shit because we have given her toys and actually give her exercise.

a tired dog means you're a good owner. you can't complain that a dog lets his energy out when you don't walk or take care of it.

Just took my husky to the vet today. I went to the bathroom, and within a few minutes of being bored she decided to eat my wife's albuterol inhaler for her asthma. I have a Pointer.

She's about 40 pounds at 1 year old and runs fast as hell. Super smart and easy to teach basic commands, loves other dogs and people, but she requires a lot of attention and play-time. If I don't run with her or play fetch every day she gets restless.

German Shepards are another dog I really like. I live in South-East Texas. Around the Houston area. Climate varies from hot as fuck down to 30°F during a colder winter. I'm planning on making a wooden dog house, insulated, for the winter. I'm actually allergic to dogs, but as long as they're 100% outside dogs, I'm fine. In the worst case scenario weather-wise I'd bring them inside and have a place set aside for them, of course, and just suck it up for the time being. As for exposure to the sun, I'm going to have a fairly large porch built, so I'm sure they'll escape the heat under there on the day to day.

Your bird will die an early death and be malnourished while alive. They're omnivores and can even eat meats like fish and chicken. Too much seed can cause liver cancer, which is two of mine died to.

Out of all the dogs I've owned the absolute smartest and loving dog I had was a toy poodle mix. I taught him how to shake without treats 7 years after I got him, and he would let us know when he had to use the bathroom by sitting by the door barking every once in a while.
