is it 8 sets of 4 reps the third week or 4 sets of 8?

and why use % of 5RM instead of 1RM like normal sheiko?

also, can i do this instead of SS? i really can't be bothered with it, and sheiko is a lot more fun for me at least. or am i shooting myself in the shoot with needlessly slow progress when i could progress workout to workout, or is it negligible in the grand scheme of things? maybe the 1rm jumps on sheiko will make up for it if the jumps are big enough?

I am getting them more for knee compression, because 5x5 in the mid to upper-mid 400s and a max very near 600 lbs is starting to beat up my knees.

It probably still doesn't matter THAT much, but elastic shit always wears loose eventually, and maybe some brands do it noticeably faster than others. If no one really noticed any differences or shitty brands or something, I'll probably just get the Eleiko.

Because anon didn't know his 1RM for the OHP, so I used the numbers I had.

Depends. If you are a beginner then do SS.
You don't need the huge amount of volume from Sheiko, and you're much better off working with high intensity and making faster jumps.

While the jumps on Sheiko can be quite large, a beginner gains strength so quickly that after a while the 85% he was working with is now barely 70% or 65%. The program will not be as effective if you get strong that fast.

If you're an intermediate lifter, then yes I'd recommend it.
However, I'd recommend Sheiko's own version of the 4day program (advanced large load). It has OHP on the 4th day, but only as accessory, and focuses on the big 3. The only reason I made a new routine for the anon was because he wanted to progress on the OHP.

i feel that SS progresses too quickly, and it's easy to neglect form just because you're in the mentality that every workout has to be a weight increase. you finish SS with subpar form and have to focus on it with lower weights after anyway.

how much slower do you think sheiko beginner would be vs ss? it's not as black and white as one month progression vs workout to workout because the jumps will be higher, right? if you total all the increases over the month it would obviously be lower than ss, but not that much, especially not for upper lifts in the later stages of ss, and you get the added benefit of more practice for your technique which may be better in the long run anyway?

also sheikos "real" novice program from the forums has higher volume anyway, but it's coach-assisted, but still, high volume is not an argument i feel. he says himself that beginners need a lot volume to get the muscle mass for higher strength in the future, while SS just maximizes the strength with what you have while gaining mass more slowly. this is why he suggests lifters under 80 kg to use the intermediate high load program and lifters over 80 kg to use medium load.

You're supposed to focus on form with lower weights AT THE START. I swear, 95% of people are idiots and start SS with too much goddamn weight on the bar, because they have never read The Book.

The short version is: Do some sets with the empty bar until the motion is done decently. Then, add JUST enough weigh to the bar to slow the bar speed down from the empty bar speed ever so slightly. That weight is used in your first day's work sets. Progress as directed from there.

It won't be genuinely heavy for a under 30 male that's eating and sleeping enough for at least a couple of weeks, probably more like a month. This gives one plenty of time to get the form down respectably.

This shit isn't surgery, it's not that goddamn hard to have solid form.

If I were coaching you I'd have you do your first comp at the bw you're in (+water cut ofc), assuming you plan on competing in the next 3-4 months.

After that, definitely bulk up to 83. But no need to do it all at once, bulk up slowly in the period of 2 months or so.

You can also competing in 93, if you don't mind having a bit higher bodyfat% :P

I personally prefer to keep the weight monitored and keep the athletes somewhat close to the weightclass, if the athlete is gonna compete frequently. Makes numbers and results more predictable and consistent, and it's easier to work with than numbers that just change randomly all the time.

But Isley's method of not worrying about it works better for someone who is only gonna do 3 or less comps per year and is not working with a coach or team. It focuses less on the technicalities and more on just getting strong.

Since bench is a very technical, surgery-like lift, make sure you do everything like in training, stay cool but hype. Dont do anything fancy you're not used to doing. Stay consistent, like its another session.
