Hey bros, is it bad if instead of doing leg days in the gym I did cross country training?
The thing is I really enjoy long distance running and I hate leg days in the gym, but I still wanna gain muscle mass on my upper body.
Is it possible to still get gains on my upper body if I'm running cross country a lot (I know I'm gonna have to eat A LOT but is it possible?)
Thanks guys
I've seen plenty of big guys running ultras, so it's definitely possible to run long distance and still put on mass. The problem will be that you'll have stick legs and a disproportionately large torso. Running gains don't look like lifting gains.
I've had to do just this. Go gym on a push/pull 4 day split with 2 core exercises added (superseded) on push day and 2 leg exercises on pull days.
I fucking loved squatting, it was my best lift by far (hyooj legs) but I soon realised lifting heavy on legs and running 3 times per week was compatible.
Just doing Deads. But swapped out Squats & Leg Press for Power Cleans and lunges

Sorry. Spelling.

I get a couple runs in every week. I don't think it will have a significant impact in until you start getting into the 20+ mile range, which isn't that much when it comes to distance training.

pretty bad. Cardio won't build much mass
Just do cardio 3x a week in addition to weight training.

So you did running and only a few leg exercises?

By big what do you mean? Cus your definition of big might not be what I'm going for

Won't build /much/ mass, at what point is it gonna be like noticeably different.
Does anyone have like a pic of someone like this?
I'm talking like 15 miles a week guys

I was thinking of people like David Goggins. He's not huge, but has some pretty decent mass, and has finished 5th in the Badwater 135, which makes him a pretty elite runner.

For (you)

Thanks man, if this guy can maintain that much mass running 135 miles, I think I can gain mass running 10 mile cross country races lmao

Just do squats and deadlifts once or twice a week, they will help you run better and will give you the gains you want.
