>Gym I go to does a 'secret santa'
>Basically put your name and picture into a hat with your email address and the gym messages you a person that you need to buy a secret gift for
>gift exchange was today
>my guy was a fat guy, about 300lbs, smiling in his image
>only started at the gym recently
>always works pretty hard, seems to be making nice gains
>want to get him a fun gift to show him I've noticed his hard work
>bought him 2 tubs of whey protein
>scooped out all of the powder
>replaced it with ash I got from burning fuckloads of paper
>peeled off the labels and replaced with stickers with the fat guys name on it and a notation saying 'he was cremated, and this was the only urn big enough, and we needed two'
>today was presents day
>he opened his gift
>got really upset and looked like he was going to cry
>felt really bad, wanted to apologise but remembered nobody knows it was me and don't want to be a pariah

Can you leave him a note somehow? Apologizing and complimenting hard work. Would be decent of you to lift his spirits if possible.
Also I work out in a small gym, so in "rush hour" we sometimes use the same machines in turns, I feel a little bad for people when I lift double what they do, especially with the process switching to and back correct weights every turn

If he quits because of some shitty joke he was never going to make it anyway.

True but boosting someones morale a little can go a long way, might help push over the top of the hill so to speak.
