Is it absolutely necessary to eat fat in order to burn fat?
I've always been a food addict but I've managed to lose nearly 100 pounds in the past 4 years by just watching my calories. I don't exercise so all of my weight loss is from portion control. The problem is that it's really difficult and I've fallen off the wagon tons of times and I'd be even slimmer now had I not.
I recently started eating what is basically a low-carb and almost no-fat diet. I just eat a bowl (2 servings) of Total Whole Grain cereal for vitamins and about 100g of grilled chicken a day. I also drink 1 soda with each sitting of chicken (which makes 2 sodas a day) which is just so I can have something that's sweet. This is where the carbs are coming from. I drink lots of water throughout the day. Fridays and Saturdays I tend to eat about 3500 calories each day so it's like a cheat weekend. Then Sunday through Thursday I'm back to eating 1200.
I'm doing all of this quite comfortably. It's easier to control my appetite and cravings this way than when I used to eat hot pockets and processed lean cuisines. It keeps me full and I have less cravings. I just want to make sure that I'm not screwing myself in the process. My goal is to lose about 30 more pounds and then see where I am after that. I'm trying to lose my love handles and lower rim of stomach fat. There's still some chest fat to lose too.

You need fat for hormone production. Count your calories and don't do some dumbass fad diet.

I forgot to mention that on Fridays and Saturdays on my "cheat weekend" I usually eat nothing but fast food and chips. So I'm getting LOTS of fat on those days, albeit bad fats, but fat. Would this make up for my low/no fat during the week?
I apologize if I sound stupid as shit but this is new to me.

No fat is a bad idea.

I believe conventional wisdom says just limit carbs and exercise and you'll see results. Or more /fit/ specific eat whatever as long as it's under your calorie goal and hit the gym

Not a troll. I was just never taught about nutrition as a kid and have had to learn it all on my own during my 20s.
Is cereal not good for vitamins? Each serving has 100% of the daily value for almost each vitamin listed. I know you don't absorb all vitamins so I eat a couple servings worth. It's impossible to eat at a deficit and get all your vitamins and I figured cereal is a better choice than a pill.
