I started Starting Strength a few weeks ago

Not much, but once I'm down to 160-170 (depends on how I look at 170) I plan to start eating at a surplus. Should I just stick with SS until I reach 4/3/2/1 Or are the potentially better options? I am really dedicated to putting in work next semester in terms of lifting so I want to make sure that have the most effective routine even though I'm probably being paranoid and I should just fucking lift.

Just started but so far progress has been alright. Since mid October, I'm down from 255 to 241 and I've gotten a bit stronger.

My main focus is on become a not-fat but I'm hoping to get the muscles going too. For the first month I pretty much just did kettlebell workouts a bit of a diet. For the last month I've split between kettlebell workouts, elliptical, and random bullshit machine lifting at the apartment """gym."""

Started SL yesterday so hopefully I'll start making better strength gains in addition to getting rid of the weight. Think it is possible to drop to 215 by the end of May while still making significant improvements on my lifts?

I was planning to hit 125 in December but I forgot about winter and how I wouldn't be able to jog any more. Trying to keep myself doing a daily indoor calisthenics workout but I am slipping. You're doing extremely well, keep it up. I started similar weight, similar height, my body looks just like yours. my goal at 5'10 is 160, you might be looking at ~150 maybe? Although 170 is looking leaner than I'd expect you to be, depends on your lean mass. My goal is to get sub 10% and build from that.

been eating 1700 calories for too long i believe. weight loss has been pretty slow seeing as i fuck it up on my maintenance days. i've been doing stronglifts for a little over a month now, I'm going to move my calories to 2000 and go from there. no more maintenance days, they're slowing up my progress too much.

I get the same feels sometimes as a fat person might losing weight. People treat me differently and if I stop and think about that sometimes its kind of overwhelming, people are very shallow and it's a little different actually experiencing it.

Overall though, best decision of my life, you'll be way more confident. However, you'll forever still feel small, so in the end it's a lifelong push to get huge.

Think of it like this. 15% of the population has a gym membership, these include all the "gyms" like curves, planet shitness, etc.

67% of those people cancel their memberships. So about 5% actually go to the gym consistently. Now, we'll say half of those people don't know how to lift properly and/or eat properly. So we'll round up and say 3% of the population lifts and say diets properly or adequately.

You are already ahead of all the average males... For me as an example, yes I have full confidence generally out in public. In a commercial gym, I am more than above average. At my university gym I am about completely average (bigger sample of bigger dudes).

But again, it all depends on what gym you go to; and as a whole literally above 97% of the population. Comparing yourself to the lifting population is a different story.

Lol I'm a student who has only been lifting for 1.5 years. I started out at skinny fat and the only gym that I've ever gone to is planet fitness.

Up until about 5 months ago I never actually had an established routine. Even now, my routine is one that I created myself and it has been shit on by /fit/ every time I've posted it asking for advice.

I am everything that /fit/ hates. Don't listen to all the bullshit that this board spews, just lift and eat consistently and the results will follow.

When I started cutting seriously back at the beginning of November I dropped down from 190 to start down to 180 almost within 2 weeks. The scale is really deceptive, you lose a lot of water weight very quickly. The number on the scale and your actually body fat fluctuate based on if you took a shit/piss, how much food is sitting in you, how much water you are retaining etc... I havent really noticed a huge difference on my hips and chest, but I dropped from a 34 waist down to a comfortable 32. I think we just need to accept its going to take sometime, we're all gonna make it.

I bulked for 6 months w/ SL after recovering from being obese, now I'm doing a cut. my bro who I've been friends with for like 5 years who doesn't lift has been making digs at me and being a pain in the ass in general trying to make me mad, feed me fast food, etc.

5'9", flip flopping around 162~165 lb right now, down from 205 (I took the initial one a short time after I had lost a little bit of weight) in what will be a year on the 22nd. I know that I've still got a ways to go before I have the body I want but I've lost 40ish pounds of fat and gained about 10 in muscle

Alternating cardio/weights plus a diet of mainly veggies and little red meat because it doesn't sit well with my stomach. Also my work which involves a lot of heavy lifting.

Diet is still shit but I started to count calories and started eating breakfast that I've never ate in my life.

Lifts increased which is nice.
