Who else here fell for the Sit-up Jew?

I just found out that this exercise puts dangerous and unnecessary pressure on the discs. Planks apparently solve this problem.

From the first time I ever did a sit-up I fucking knew that it couldn't be good for your back. Nah, man, it's fine they said.
>>
>>39616837
I don't remember where I heard it but somewhere someone wrote that the spine is like a credit card, it'll bend fine for awhile but eventually it gives out. Now I don't know how true it is, but I hate doing sit ups and crunches so it gives me a good enough reason to stick with isometric ab work.
>>
>>39616837
just don't let your lumbar spine extend beyond neutral, and you'll be fine.
intra-abdominal pressure can help with that.

>>39616860
the "spines only have X amount of flexion cycles before they're done" is some misinterpreted bullshit from a study on animal cadaver spines.
neutral spine under heavy load is a good idea, but you can safely flex or extend your spine in exercise too.
>>
>>39616837
I've always felt them badly in my back.

Never do them now anyway. They're an antique curiosity.
>>
>>39616999
I figured it was mostly meme science, but planks and heavy compounds have been enough for me. I also don't care for super shredded abs either so that could have something to do with it.
>>
Yeah mine makes noises, which is why I stopped doing them.
>>
>>39617038
>makes noises
This. Fuck that.
>>
>>39617016
Yeah, I actually prefer isometric core exercises too.
>>
>sit ups are bad for your back
>leg raises ruin posture
>planks dont do fuck diddly

So what is the GOAT ab exercise?
>>
tfw 38 sit ups for PT test this week
>>
>>39617104
Ab roller
>>
>>39617109
Just half ass them with terrible ROM, it's not like you'd get a fail for that, is it?
>>
>>39617104
deadlifts and squats
>>
>>39617104
why would leg raises ruin your posture?
>>
>>39617104
>planks don't do anything

lmao wut? Just move your arms further out front, maybe lift one leg. If that doesn't tire you out in a reasonable time frame use only one arm. Just make the exercise harder if you find it too easy.
>>
>>39617104
Ab wheel is brutal, you can fuck up your shoulders, FACE and back with it, but it is super effective even in bitch mode.
>>
>>39617104
Front lever
>>
>>39617109
That's absolutely horrific. In 2 minutes? Before I started working out for ROTC I was a highschool lineman and 29 pounds over the max Army weight and I got 50 situps on my first pt test.
>>
i have a degenerate disc in my t12,

it's pushing me to suicide

Dragon flag
>>
>>39617389
They thighten some muscles forgot what muscles tho. And then make anterior pelvic tilit. Sit ups too.
>>
>>39617693
How did you ruin it? I want to start going to the gym, but i'm starting to think that squats would ruin my back
>>
How the fuck do I not fuck up my shoulders doing planks?

They always hurt afterwards
>>
>>39617693
take up yoga dude, seriously. my shit is all fucked up in the lumbar area and thanks to yoga I'm fine. I was also borderline suicidal for a while but yoga's done more for me than any procedures have, thank god for being fit or I'd have never recovered. also I dropped weights for bodyweight gymnastics shit and wearing a weighted backpack for certain exercises. still do deadlifts though, they're good for the lower back once you are good to go and if you do them L I G H T and absolutely perfectly
>>
>>39617104
I do cable crunches, feels good man.

>>39617395
desu I also feel like planks do nothing, it's probably just mental but sitting there for minutes straight waiting for the burn to set in is insanely unsatisfying.
>>
>>39617104
>planks don't do fuck diddly
Wrong
>>
>>39617104
Ab roller
Dragon flags
Weighted planks

Maybe if you do it wrong
>>
>>39617400
this. people don't take ab wheel seriously because it looks like an 80's infomercial product. but i was crying a solid week my abs were so sore after the first time using one. all other ab exercises are a fucking joke.
>>
>>39617708
thats impossible for 99% of population

What do you do when you reach a weight where you're lifting up your body so much your feet start sliding over the floor?
