I mean it's hard to lose massive amounts of weight in any situation you're not starving yourself. Being cold does make your body expend more calories, thus making it easier to lose weight.

Na, it doesn't. Some time ago, my heater broke during winter and I was cold af for months (iirc, my room temperature was something like 5°C, and 20°C is normal) because the landlord preferred to hire some obscure Turkish company to fix it (Germany here). It was a fucking shit time, but I didn't lose any weight at all.
