Can someone teach me how to swim

It's simple, pretend like the air is thick enough that if you flapped your arms below you, you would fly upwards.

If you straighten your feet, scissor kick them, and flatten your hand and wave it at the ground in a circular motion, you will fly upwards. Now instead of thick air put yourself in a pool.

It's easier while moving forward, also the most important rule not only in swimming, but in everything, is Don't Panic

1- Learn to float on your back. This is the first step to being in water that you can't stand in and not dying. Really all there is to it is laying on your back, puffing your chest out, and not panicking. The not panicking is the hardest part, because you are afraid of drowning.
2- Treading water. This allows you to not only not drown, but also have some mobility. Move your arms and legs in tight, quick circles until you are generating enough force to keep your head above water. Keep your hands cupped and your toes pointed.
3- The flutter kick. Get a kickboard. Point your toes, keep your legs straight, move them back and forth rapidly until you start moving forward. Focus on keeping your legs and torso as horizontal as possible, your legs as straight as possible, and your kicks as fast as possible.
4- Kicking with side breathing (there's probably a better term for this, idk). Grab your kickboard again, start kicking. Stick your face in the water, blow bubbles until all the air is out of your lungs. Tilt your head to the side, take a breath. Try not to raise your head out of the water at all, but rather just turn your head to breathe. You will want to buy goggles for this if you haven't already.
5- Freestyle. Ditch the kickboard. Alternating left and right, stick your arm forward into the water until it is fully extended. Your fingers should be together and flat. Then, cup your palm and pull it back to your side forcefully, using the water to push you forward. Your arm should finish by your hip with your elbow at a 90 degree angle. As your arm is pulling back, the other should be extending forward. Using the breathing strategy you learned earlier, you want to take a breath to one side every time that arm is pulling backward. Once your lung capacity improves, you can alternate sides and breathe every third stroke. All the while, you should be doing the same flutter kicking that you learned earlier.

Congrats, you can swim.

The key to swimming is to actually push your body through the water, as if you are digging through the earth like a mole.

Most people I've met who can't swim well seem to be doing the strokes of swimming but not actually applying it practically by actually using the strokes to swim and push themselves through the water, it's like they're just doing the movements.

Think of throwing a punch, you can simply do the movement of the jab and bruise the opponent a little bit or put your bodyweight and power into it and break his teeth.

Imo, 1 and 2 are the most essential.

Breast stroke is similar to the doggie paddle and are the easiest. I've found the dog paddle to be the best way to understand the mechanics of swimming.
