I'll try to keep this brief:

I'm female and after a severe injury I have been more or less housebound for the last maybe 18 months or so. I'm not fat but I would definitely benefit both physically and mentally by going to the gym.

However, I'm scared to sign up because I know that after such a long hiatus involving a Leg injury I need someone to show me how to exercise again properly. I'm not a moron but I know that my form will be all over the place and I don't know my limits etc etc.

Should I hire a personal trainer for a few weeks to get me back into things? Or would some kind of excerise/injury specialist be better? Is there anything I can do on my own so that I don't either hurt myself or look like an idiot?

Sorry for the long post, I hope I'm not just being really ignorant or stupid but I'd rather sound stupid on here than look like an idiot at the gym! Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated here, thanks!

Okay, I'm sorry if I've offended you. I was only unsure about personal trainers because I didnt want to waste their time or look stupid if there's a more relevant person to see. The reason I mentioned being female is because I believed people would be more inclined to recommend other activities such as yoga or Pilates or some kind of dance class or other girly activities if they were appropriate.

I'm sorry if I'm being annoying, I just don't have a clue what's relevant or not relevant and I'm just looking for advice from anyone that does have knowledge about this.
