Everyone on youtube is now using the incline machine or light dumbell benching. What happened?

They found out what works for them.
Barbell bench isnt that great at isolating your pecs so im not surprised.

>barbell bench press is dead
Come on lad same shit was said about OHP once but it's still here and is still one of the most important excercises. Youtube is not a reliable source of information unless you are a fuccboi.
Serious question: are free weights really more effective for building muscle?
I know the meme is that they're more "manly" and that machines are for women but is there any literature to suggest that they're better for stimulating muscle growth?
I'd much rather use the machines since the benches and racks are always busy at my gym.

Depends. If they work for you goals and produce the desired results, use them.
>>39573894
They do but if I could achieve the same results with machines I might as well do that. That's why I'm curious.

free weights build stabilisers and engage a lot more musculature. I.e smith machine squats or leg extension might target one part of your quad just as well as squats, but all the little muscles all over your back, core and other muscles around your legs are worked much better when you move freely, like with barbell squats

Yes but the difference is negligible and a machine going high enough will let you get like 80% of the FW equiv.

>stabilisers
Don't exist.

Squat on the smith machine for 6 months and then try and do real squats at the same weight
you can't
