Here's the key:
Eating a high protein-fat diet will stave off hunger like no other. It's challenging to hit maintenance calories - maintaining a deficit is EZ-PZ.

Also, eating a well balanced nutrient dense diet with a deficit is always a good choice, since you're body is getting an array of everything it really needs.
