Being tall instantly shows that you have good genes (being tall is a favourable trait, just like being handsome/symmetrical, smelling nice etc.). These traits are things that people judge eachother on, simple as that. Being judged better than competitors is a genetical advantage etcetera etcetera --> you have a lot of kids and a lot of friends making sure your genes are passed on.
