I usually keep my oats:liquid ratio about 1:2, but you can use more or less liquid depending on how you want it. I just boil the oats until the liquid starts disappearing, then turn off the flame and let it finish cooking on its own. Add some fruit for sweetness, and this is the simplest way to make oats.

Fistful of oats, splash of milk, bit of boiled water in a pot on the stove. Sugar if you like sugar.
Boil it till the oats are swoll.

Add yogurt and banana to make the shit tolerable.

if your in burgerland like me just go to walmart and buy the boxes of single serving oatmeal. they also have some "protein" ones that are pretty tasty.

Literally to cook:

Put water in pot
Boil water
Pour into oats and stir
[optional add cinnamon]
>>
This is a more "French" way of cooking oats, but it tastes pretty damn good:
1.Put 2 tbsp salted butter in a small saucepan on low heat
2.Once butter is melted, throw in a cup of oats and "sweat" them in the butter while stirring until they've absorbed it all
3.Put a cup of milk on top of the oats and let simmer until al dente
4.Stir in 1-2 tbsp of raspberry or strawberry jam and serve.
>>
>pour oatmeal into bowl
>cover with water until there's a quarter inch of water more than oatmeal
>heat in the microwave for a minute
>stir
>heat for 30 seconds to a minute more depending on texture preference
>pour in frozen blueberries or other fruit, and/or Greek yogurt
>>
>steel cut oats
>heat up water to boiling
>put in measured steel cut oats
>allow to boil
>turn off heat immediately
>cover and let sit on stove, store in fridge at night
>scoop out your serving the next day, top with whatevs

What is the benefit of steel cut over regular oats? Quick oats taste like garbage, but regular oats and steel cut are roughly the same flavor-wise. There's a small glycemic index difference, but is that really worth the hassle of the increased cooking time?
>>
>>39524704
yeah but how do I make it not taste like I am eating cardboard? I've added fruit but it doesn't detract from the fact that I feel like I am eating soggy cardboard
>>
>>39525045
They're whole grain and as a result, have a lot more fibre than quick oats. Worth the trouble if you can find them cheap enough .
>>
Who #teamrawoats here?

Just buy rolled oats, add milk, and let it sit for a little bit. This is a much more efficient way to eat 3-4 servings of oats in one sitting than whatever bullshit you've been doing, OP.

>Pour 240ml of 1% or skim milk into microwavable cup
>Push beverage on micorwave
>pour yourself 80g of oats in bowl
>Mix the hot milk in bowl of oats
>Add 14g of honey
> * Optional add protein powder

~30g of protein without pro powder.
>>
>>39524504
Grill a 250-300g chicken breast, then shred it.
Measure out 120g steelcut oats.
Measure out 85g shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
Put 2.25 cups water into a medium saucepan and set it up to boil.
Add 3-4 tablespoons "Better Than Bouillon" chicken bouillon to the water.
Add oats when the water boils, turn down the heat to a simmer, put the lid on the saucepan canted slightly. Simmer until the oats are tender and the liquid has reduced down significantly.
Take saucepan off the heat, add the cheese, mix thoroughly. Add the shredded chicken. If you like you can add vegetables to this, too. Now you've got a tasty, satisfying, one-plate meal, full of all three macros, plus a goodly amount of fiber, and all the goodness of steelcut oats, and not in some over-sweetened breakfast cereal form.

Going further, you can very often substitute steelcut oats for rice in many recipies to make them more nutrituous and interesting.

>>39524672
I was thinking of adding an egg or two on top of this, instead of peanut butter. Will that fuck it up too bad?
