Which is more impressive:
Breaking 5 minutes for the mile?
or
Bench Pressing 300 lbs.
Bonus points: are both possible by the same athlete?
Discuss, faggots (not that you can do either).
I've done both. about 5 years apart tho.
I'd say the 5 minute mile is more impressive because the pain is consistent. I wanted to give up and die for 4 and half minutes.

To be a good miler one needs natural talent and a shitload of hard work. Lifting heavy weights just requires the shitload of hard work. There's an element of genetics when it comes to physique, but bench pressing doesn't require talent.
Not sure if that means the mile is more impressive because not everyone can do it or the bench press because it's pure hard work (/roids).

I'd say breaking a 5 minute mile, because I can bench press 308 for two when sick, hungry and sleep deprived, but I've never managed to run a mile faster than 6,5 minutes.

Benching 300
A 5 minute mile is not that impressive.

Depends on the guy doing it. I'm tall and broad-shouldered, and I weigh in at 210 lbs (not 210 lean, mind you, but that's my eventual goal). I set a new PR at 295 last week and hope to try for 300 this weekend. I broke a 6 minute mile back when I weighed closer to 180, but with my build 5 minutes just isn't happening.
Compare if I were built more lean. 300 lb bench would be out of the question without adding mass, but running a fast mile would be more obtainable.
Leaving out the "do both" option (ROIDS), I would be more impressed by a skinny guy benching 300 then by a big guy running a 5-minute mile. Willpower can shave more time off a run at that distance (a mile isn't far) than it can buy you in weight; the track might lie to you on a good day but the iron is constant.

This is pretty accurate. For a 250lb dude the 5min mile is more impressive. For a 150lb dude benching 300. Back in high school when I weighed 117lb a 5min mile was nothing, but I could barely bench 1plt. Now at my 196lb I max out at 295 bench but struggle to get a 7min mile.
