Im cutting and only go to the gym 3x a week. I have one week to get in decent shape and cut maybe seven pounds. Would working out twice a day be beneficial? Morning and afternoon sessions about 40 mins each. Any tips or advice? I figure in 3 days ill be in cut mode and then id have 4 days to really get into it.

Do treadmill for 90 minutes, that's five miles at an easy pace, cut calories down to 500-750 per day. That will do it.
if you're cutting, you might as well just lift 3x/week and spend the rest of the time doing cardio.
Make sure to get enough protein and you should be good to go

How do i keep my joints in tact? I only heavy lift and do cardio twice a week at most. Switching to cardio every day is going to cause some stress. Ideally I want to be able to walk.

If after a session of lifting you are ok to lift again in the afternoon that means the morning session has not been hard enough. So stop the non sense and lift harder
