I have a question for you. My social environment is pretty drink-heavy. It's the social standard and go-to activity. You could say it's the basis of the german student life (in german fraternities).
How do I go about mitigating the damage of alcohol consumption. I know I could just not drink at all and would eventually accepted but that's not even really what I want. Sometimes it's nice to have a drink. Or two. Or a Kanne.
Where's the middle-ground? What are your experiences with social pressure to drink?

When I feel tipsy and relaxed, typically around once or twice every month or two.

Simple, I don't let someone else decide for me what I'm going to do, and drink at my own pace.
You're your own person anon, fuck what others think.
And if they stop being your friend because you don't drink as much as they do you get new friends and stop hanging out with faggots.
There is no appeal in both getting shitfaced and being a person who always gets shitfaced.

There's a list somewhere online of the most calorie efficient drinks. Obviously 190 everclear is the best, but since drinking that straight is disgusting, crown Royal is surprisingly effecting and then 1 or 2 light beer brands aren't too bad. You will get shit on by hipsters with their craft beers, but most of them are numales anyway, so don't give a fuck.

Its really a tuff problem to have anon. I am a distiller so you can imagine how much trouble i have had.. drinking has completely screwed my workout life though. You will only ever want more. My middle ground is drinking liquor once or twice on the weekend. Not a ton but maybe half a bottle in the evening. I always make sure to be in bed at a good hour and eat protein heavy foods throughout drinking so i dont have a sudden urge to devour a whole sub or some shit. I am just now beginning to feel okay again and making some gainz. TLDR, if you drink dont stay up all night doing it. Eat healthy and mix water in after every other drink. All this being said working out and being a champ is much more fulfilling at the end of the day then tearing through a 30 pack with a group of morons. He who lays with dogs..
