What are the benefits of low bar? I have never tried it thinking of giving it a bash prior to meet.

In general, high bar allows for a longer range of motion, are a bit harder on the upper back, a bit easier on the lower back, but low bar will allow for a bit more weight to be used.
Low bar might train the hip extensors (adductor magni, glutes, hamstrings) a bit better.
For generally getting stronger, it doesn't matter much, but I'd recommend high-bar.
