Relaxed fit denim jeans and a simple tshirt are best. Basketball shorts are the worst, and will get you laughed out of most gyms.

when my friend started he got the same deal and he was put on some meme exercises with machines and dumbbells. he lost 2 months of progress because he didn't want to listen and did what those shitty PTs told him to do.
if you don't have any existing medical or joint issues you should just go with starter routines and not waste your time
