Alright since it seems like /fit/ doesn't have a clue what this whole "muscle confusion" shit is, I'll break it down very easily to you
Your muscles heal in a matter of days, this is true. But your nervous system is exhausted a lot longer. Around week is a good estimate; this is generally why people recommend taking around a week long break every couple of months. To rest your nervous system properly. Stuff like heavy deadlifts really strain it
Now, what this has to do with muscle confusion you might ask. You see if you do a certain exercise to hit a certain muscle group, your nervous system will work the same way every time. So if you next time train the same muscle group with different exercises, your nervous system will get strained in a different way. You still hit the same muscles. Not only that but different exercises hit different supporting muscles in a different way as well. Pro bodybuilders do a huge variety of different kinds of legpress for a reason
So, the term "muscle confusion" is a bit retarded and the way people go about it is wrong. In practice you could just, say, hit your biceps twice a week and as long as you use difference exercises on both days, you can keep using those same exercises on the same days and get the most benefit. You don't have to complete overhaul your program every month to 'keep the muscles confused'
