I've noticed I've cut back on my intake substantially after starting a diet recently. I'm trying to drop down to 160, starting from 220 5'6. I'm currently at 210 and things are going pretty well, but I have one concern. I've been told that it can be dangerous to cut back more than ~25% of your required intake (for me, that's probably around 2700 cals, so about 2000). Lately though, I've been finding myself eating less and less, to the point of taking in as low as ~1400 cals in a day. I FEEL fine, though. I still have plenty of energy and I don't feel hungry all the time. In fact, I've become so accustomed to this diet that I don't even notice how little I'm actually eating.
So what I want to ask is, should I try to increase my intake, even if I feel fine?

If you drop more than 25%, your body will go to energy saving mode. Your metabolism will slow down, and you will fell sleepy more often and your body will try to store as much energy as it can. Basically your body will think it is crisis times, so it will try to make some energy savings. Basically you will get fat from eating less than 75% of your required intake. Also remeber about proportions in your diet. You need fat. My diet long ago was at only 7% fat and 30% proteins, having 50% daily calories intake. I was sleeping sometimes for as long as 10 hours, my gym progress was shit and I shat once a day (because slowed down metabolism) I never felt hungry, but when counted everything and realised whats wrong, I added some fat meat to my diet to eat even a little over my required intake and my progress and energy changed dramaticaly. I could sleep for 6 hours and be fine and I gained muscles more easily. Understanding your own body is key. I can't tell you for sure whats good or bad, I can just share my experience

That's what I worry about, but I don't experience any of the fatigue or long sleep sessions you're describing. Also, my weight seems to be dropping continuously (I've been at it for about 3 weeks and have dropped 10lbs), and it hasn't slowed down very much, if at all.

Is it normal to shit once a day? Average for me has been around 5 times a week, regardless of my intake.

Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for those symptoms.

yeah I was so low for almost half a year before it kicked in. They easily go away tho. Just remeber the reason why its all happening shen it ocours and dont be surprised. Just start eating more right away.

Starvation mode is a myth. Just don't go to extremes. 30% is aggressive but manageable.
