I'll try to keep this short as I can so bear with me please if you can.

For the last few years, I've had a previously undiagnosed medical condition to which the doctors have recommended cutting out hockey and athletics from my life and only doing things like running, cycling and swimming.

My condition has now been diagnosed and the doctors have recommended low resistance muscle toning exercise and strictly to avoid impact sports. Luckily, google has given me a wealth of new excercises and sports to try but I'm not sure how to go about learning them.

My medical condition means that most importantly I get my form right when excercising to minimise any damage to my body. Therefore, should I join classes or a gym or exercise from home using, for example, pro videos where they explain how to get your form right when you exercise?

I have tried seeking specialist advice but unfortunately, due to various constraints I have been unsuccessful. I understand this is a very random poorly written post but I'm really just looking for any advice or ideas that anyone has.

What is the condition?

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Hypermobility Type.

Basically the collagen my body produces is structurally not sound and overly elastic which means I have a greater range of motion in my joints however, this means every day I dislocate or sublaxate them simply while walking. I also have tendinitis and bursitis as a complication. This makes exercise particularly challenging.

Maybe you should swim or something?

Thanks for replying, I appreciate your suggestion, I actually had the same thought! Unfortunately, I did try this but for me, the motions with my leg meant that my hip would regularly dislocate which is a particularly difficult problem to rectify in a swimming pool and could potentially make me a liability in the pool. Currently, I mainly stick to cycling.

Would taking collagen supplements cause your body to produce less of it's own bad collagen and use the good collagen you ingest?
>>

God I wish! So I didn't know this until recently, but collagen actually makes up around 1/3 of your body structural protein in you bones, ligaments, tendons and skin. I'm not sure what kind of impact taking collagen would have but I don't think it would be big enough to make up for my faulty genes sadly! Nobody's given me that suggestion before though, thank you for taking the time reply and for thinking outside the box!

Your collagen maybe fucked up but you sound like a good person. Best of luck and God bless.

It couldn't hurt to try some collagen pills, if anything it might make a small difference if you do it long enough.

You're totally right, it couldn't hurt and I understand the logic behind taking collagen pills but I can say that they won't make a difference. When your body produces proteins it constructs a chain of amino acids to create that protein. When you take collagen supplements, your body has to digest the supplement and break it down into amino acids before it can be digested. Therefore, if I took collagen supplements I would simply have more amino acids with the same quality of collagen as a final product.

Would it be helpful if I were to list specifically all the information the doctors have given me with regards to exercisi appropriately? (I just didn't want to post a huge annoying list but i may have been wrong?)
