Assuming that OP's info is correct, the reason why a gorilla would be able to generate more power is a simple matter of geometry and leverage and range of motions of lever arms attached to its joints.

Force = Mass x Acceleration

For example, a bear swiping with its paw has a lot of power but limited range of motion. A gorilla has much more joint mobility and longer lever arms to accelerate its mass faster and create much more force.

Think of it like a normal man versus a dwarf in a fight. The limb length and jointly mobility make a massive difference.
