Why do artists generally have an aversion to physical activities?
>>
>>39274639
they're dweebs
>>
>>39274639
>"""""artists"""""
You mean losers who whine over the internet by making "cute" and "funny" comics?
>>
I think its more that people with an aversion to physical activity are more likely to be artists, because they spend more time indoors.

Then they use their artwork to illustrate their methods of justifying their laziness by ridiculing those who make them feel insecure.
>>
>>39274639
because they are product of pussyfication culture

pre war even artists did lots of sports.
>>
>>39274639
imagine being so insecure that you had to draw strawman comics like this
>>
>>39274639
Musician
Putting time into practicing an art has faster results that appeal to the practitioner more than phsyical activities.
I'll spend hours composing, practicing unique phrasing, recording, eqing, playing live, etc, and that just eats a lot of my free time after work.
But the final product of that day is more exciting to me than the final product of one day of lifting
Still lift though because want that look and health later in life.
>tfw strong forearms from playing bass and guitars with really thick strings and high action
>>
>>39274779
OP here, I'm an illustrator. My artist colleagues give me dirty looks when I tell them I go to the gym. But the guys at the gym look at me funny when I say I'm an illustrator.
>>
Eh, I'm an artfag and working on losing weight. If it's just about going outside then it's hard to draw stuff outside in hot or cold weather or whatevs. I like to be comfortable when I draw. I feel like art fags tend to be more withdrawn in general and just prefer being inside and left to their own devices. There's always exceptions but still.

I go to art college and it's usually fat chicks and flamboyant gay dudes there. I've honestly never seen a fit person. Maybe not a fatass but not muscular.
>>
>>39274639

>Work as a model for art students in the university
>models working there usually have flabby bodies
>students like working with me, because they can actually see some definition (even though I'm just dyel) and work on their shading skills

Still not many people there that actually work out or train anything, but they appreciate well built body.
But yeah, i Remember some online comic 'artist' that drew a "muscly men drawing guide" that shown a
>low bodyfat body with proper V line
>Fat muscly body
and tried to convince people that thety are
>muscles for show without functional strength attached"
and
>a guy that wrestle bears in the woods

I'm a writer. Most of my colleagues are disgusting hamplanets and do nothing but give me shit for caring about my body.

A lot of writers think it is somehow rebellious to be slovenly, drunk, and fat like Bukowski.

Unlike Buk, most of them can't write for shit to make up for how disgusting they are.

>mfw I am the only one in my general circle who makes a living off of writing
>mfw when I come up with my best shit while in the gym
>mfw I watch them all fail time and time again
>>
>>39274639

I'm sorry, do you consider that pathetic rendition of a comic strip art? Mediocre people are mediocre at everything don't pay them any attention.
>>
>>39274956
I actually have that picture somewhere on here
>Low bodyfat with impressive v-taper
That was given as an example of a bodybuilder, although unfortunately described as a "gymrat", but the character had pretty sweet arms with very wide shoulders and narrow hips in a gunshow pose and emphasis on lats
>Fat muscly body
Literally looked like Klokov at mid-high teens bodyfat, with still impressive arms that were dwarfed by the tree trunk that was his core. Both bodies actually looked pretty great. The great irony of the examples given is that they fairly accurately represent the difference in bone structures and musculatures between bodybuilders and heavy powerlifters / >strongmen
But there was absolutely zero understand or appreciation of the work and dedication that went into either body. Rustles my jimmies.

Theatrefag here. I do everything from scenic design and tech work to acting. There's an interesting mix of people in terms of physical abilities there. There are a handful of girls that are hamplanets, but most sit in the skinnyfat range where they do the occasional yoga or cardio session. There's a much larger disparity amongst the men with guys who clearly lift, guys who looks like they would crumble if you put an empty bar on their back, and the chubby-bordering-on-obese guys.

It may be a little different from other arts because there's a larger personal image component that goes with the field, but there are many folks of both genders that buy into the buzzfeed DUDE PIZZA IS LIFE LMAO type shit. Especially with the fatter flaming guys

I mostly know illustrators and other seamstresses/prop makers who also draw (but not for money). I would say most of them enjoy jogging, actually, or things like yoga. They don't seem opposed to lifting, but they seem to think that lifting light is the only way you should do it or you will get HYOOG and bulky. My art friends also just seem really busy and are TERRIBLE at managing their time so that's probably why they don't work out. The few that want to lift keep saying they are too out of shape to go to the gym. I think a lot of "artistic types" were bullied, including myself, and some still fear being bullied as an adult.

I am a full time artist though, and I like lifting a lot. I received a lot of positive messages from my art friends and clients when they found out what I look like and that I lift. A lot asked for advice that they never took.

Why are people with different lifestyles so insistent on projecting about /fit/?
>>
>>39274779
Musician here. I don't lift as much as I should because I would rather focus on my craft. It is also in attempt to avoid injury, as my gigs are more important to me than my gains.

I do stay healthy through, eat fit and cardio commute. Just don't make time for the gym like I do for band practice.

>>
>>39276151
Also, I know that feel. I have the art, music, /lit/, psychoactive things, etc. taste of a hipster but I'm also into paleocon politics, lifting, and guns. I tend to find normies boring and they tend to find me strange, but I end up pissing off every trendy friend group I enter with my bizarre mix of interests.

Feels lonely, man.
>>
>>39276151
Rock the fuck on, I like you.

>>39274639
People limit themselves. I was always a pretty creative/artistic kid, and I was super active/fit as a kiddo, but in middle & high school I started to hate the "dumb jocks" and think I was superior to them. Secretly I wished I was strong, and I finally gave up my bullshit and came to realize I really enjoy physical pursuits in my latter teens.

The artsy types don't think they can be stronk, and the stronk guys don't think they can be artistic/expressive. Don't put yourself in a box, just be honest with yourself and everyone.

It fluctuates. If I am helping edit someone else's work, which I often do, it can be a very stressful experience. Especially if you are trying to polish a turd. I do freelance editing for extra money, and the complete lack of craft some of these fucks have is exhausting. Working on my own material is always rewarding, even when it is difficult. It is no different from lifting. The discipline is the same.

An example of a demoralizing experience: A few months ago I was contacted by an older man trying to get his first novel out. He was recommended to me by someone I went to school with. I was paid for three passes, meaning I edit back and forth with him three times.

His novel was literally Saving Private Ryan. Seriously. The entire plot of the film was there down to the fact that some characters even had the same names. He acted like he had never even heard of the movie. Money was money though, so I went ahead with it. I gave it my best and provided very thorough feedback, even going to the point of offering to rewrite entire chunks. Every time he sent it back for the next round, it was the exact same rough draft that he had sent me the first time. He clearly wasn't even reading anything I sent back, but he kept claiming he was making changes.

This mother fucker didn't change a single line and I had to waste valuable time reading the same thing over and over again just to see if he had even added a comma anywhere. A month later he had the nerve to get pissed off at me and demand his money back because he was under the impression that I was just going to rewrite the entire book (because that's what he thought editors did). Apparently he was embarrassed when he sent my final pass to a friend of his who is a publisher, thinking it was going to be a polished final copy. Turned out he had sent a manuscript document covered from end to end with notes of my extensive criticism and constant grammar corrections.

His friend told him to fuck off and so did I.

I would argue the opposite. Anyone (or almost anyone) can create a beautiful body given enough time and dedication. No internal spark of talent is needed for that, it's a matter of biology. And while natural gifts may dictate how long that takes or how difficult it is, it can be done. Creating art, on the other hand, is a talent that can be cultivated. But not everyone can reach the level of being able to produce something beautiful.
>>
>>39279711
wrong, everyone can. may take longer for some, just like the body, but you eventually get there. most people simply don't work hard enough at these things.
>>
>>39277984
It is 100% who you know.

My in was an old professor who helped me get a job as an editor. Went freelance from there and made connections to get my own shit out there.

Connections are easy to make though. Authors are very accessible people and are more than willing to hear someone out who isn't a complete sperg. They don't have the kind of gated infrastructure that a musician or actor would have, where contacting them goes through multiple channels and middlemen. Hell, many of them have their personal emails available, you just have to look for them.

I would also recommend attending conventions. Publishers allow for open solicits and even if nothing comes from it, at least an impression was made. Don't bother with local writing groups. Most of them are just lazy washouts and old hippies who don't plan on going anywhere with their work.

Where you live has more to do with it than you think. I was lucky enough to pull it off while currently living in Tampa, which has made things harder than it would otherwise. You want to be close to other successful writers and publishing houses, which is why I am ditching this garbage dump and moving to Seattle in May.

Like I mentioned in >>39279679 though, it is the same as working out. You really have to want that shit to get anything out of it. Unfortunately, unlike lifting, we are not all going to make it, brah. You need to live and breathe it just to make a dent, and even then you still might be shit.

you should have both.
the creator of the comic is a beta male who is massively jealous of muscular, strong, dominant men. he thinks he's using his intelligence to get a 1 up, but at the end of the day he is encouraging himself to NOT exude masculine qualities, ultimately shooting himself in the foot.

Well, OP, you posted an "artist", basically some millennial kid with a tumblr who does things for attention and social media likes.

A lot of my drawbuddies from /ic/ are pretty /fit/, and if you seriously do art (8+ hours a day) lifting is a godsend to fix the terrible posture and RSI conditions you'll otherwise develop.

People who market themselves as "artists" are generally people who for whatever reason can't get a more specific title.

Sometimes because they're lazy.

>tfw hired a struggling artist friend of mine to draw a pic for my gf's birthday
>Nothing massive; just a joke between gf and I
>Gave her instructions on what I wanted (a drawing of a plant between a4 and a5 size)
>Asked how much it'd cost and how long it'd take
>"Yeah, I can do it within a few days"
>Still don't know how much it'll cost
>Messaged them on fb with a more specific pic of what I want
>Not seen
>They're both online and posting memes and statuses
>I did almost all the talking, and I'm not totally sure if we even have an agreement or not. She just hasn't responded to anything
>I've got a strict budget for gf's present, and I really need to know what's happening

This same person is always complaining about how stressful her work is, and how people don't want to encourage artists. Icing on the cake is when she was ranting about people not taking artists seriously as professionals.

So it goes.
Buddy is the fittest guy I know, trying out for the oly fencing team, drinks beer like water and paints beautiful shit and does interior design.
He's my inspiration, no homo.

I'm hoping to break into writing as more of a hobby for now, but possibly as part time job later in life.

I've started by writing short stories and sending them to literary magazines. I heard back from my first attempt a few days ago, and they said it didn't make the cut. They gave me a list of feedback, though, which on their site they explicitly say not to expect, and it was mostly positive.

Do you think I should keep submitting short stories to magazines for the next few years, or is that a waste of time?

You really need to learn how to use a computer if you have to actualöy read two texts to find out if and where they differ.

there's like 3 fat people in our chemistry faculty, 2 of them are computational chemists and one is a chemometrics specialist=full time computer jobs. Rest are all if not fit at least decently normal.

I'm not sure. The same goes for studious people, they are never in shape. I study physics and uni and i'm the only person on the entire course who isn't either tubby or twiggy.

Who did you submit to? If it was a larger mag, that is actually a pretty big deal.

Getting published is getting published and you should never turn down an opportunity at the stage you are at. No one worth listening to is going to look at your history and say, "His first short stories weren't in The Atlantic? He must be shit." I would recommend focusing on smaller magazines. If you are in uni, they certainly have a lit journal. Start there. Anyone can submit. The problem is that just publishing short stories through magazines is no way to make a living and the pay you get stops being worth it unless you have enough to publish a collection. You have to be fairly established to get anything more than a flat fee with magazines.

If a novel or script is something that appeals to you, I would suggest taking the plunge and spending your time on that. Shop it around as much as you can and send out short stories afterwards. Building a relationship with a magazine staff is a great way to get ahead. You will impress the hell out of them if they ask you what else you have and you reply with, "I already have this novel," as opposed to, "I want to write a novel." While they may not be in the business of publishing novels themselves, they know people who do.

This is also a fantastic resource: http://www.pw.org/literary_magazines

I actually did that the last time. I genuinely wasn't expecting such bullshit and made it pretty much all the way through the second go before I bothered to look. Now I do it every time wth everything I am sent.
