Because you focus the weight onto a single muscle group rather than balancing it equally between two.

Your right arm/chest will give way before your left does, meaning it gets more workout.

With dumbbells, you'll be able to spot if you're smaller pec is weaker. Thus strengthening it properly, should make it bigger. This is assuming you just don't have pec insertions or scoliosis.

I also suggest standing cable chest presses as well, split stance pressing into a decline angel. And of course some cable fly work would help.
And of course some sets of push-ups to finish.
