If you go through with it with this mentality, make sure to put in a lot of thinking about where, how and what it'll look like to you as time goes on. What you consider cool now may change as time goes on or it'll stretch and look terrible the bigger you get. Do note though, that getting a tattoo just because you think it looks cool is never a good idea. It's the reason why many people end up with regrets as time goes on.
Or you can design something simple that you can say represents something, then look up artwork by artists that you think looks cool and imitate it into your design. Sure you're copying someone else's style, but its better than choosing an off-the-shelf design.

Tattoos are really hit or miss. I think too many young people impulsively get tattoos that will eventually they'll regret. I also think too many people go to shitty artists because they don't want to save up the money for a good tattoo. Tip: If you don't have the money for a good artist to spare, getting a tattoo should be a low priority. Go get a better job and more money.

The doctor I work with has a really great tattoo wrapping around his upper right arm. He and his wife met when they were teenagers on a sailing competition. They continued sailing for over 10 years together. She sadly passed from unrelated causes.

He got a tattoo in remembrance of her and their passion of sailing. It's their boat out on the water at night. It's a really simple idea but it was executed so well. I really wish I had a photo to share.
