Turn off all lights down stairs then flick the switches till I can see the light coming from the room.

Anyone go too far with the TM and fuck up joints? I did a reduced load TM for the summer, am getting back to loading back up, but think I have put too much wear and tear on my hip after pretty much a year of 1 5x5 squat volume day a week at various weight loads... I'm pissed but I think I need to take a break from squats for a month or so to see if it heals. Anyone else overdo it on TM?

meanwhile some people do a 10kg bulk and put crazy amounts on their total, then can't lose weight or lose lots of strength when cutting.

BIDMAS is correct. It's the standard worldwide.

>>
>>39222375
Brackets
Indices
Division
>>
>>39222339
Bedmas doesn't make sense in this case.
It effectively changes the equation from 48/2*(3+9) to (48*(3+9))/2 I think that 48/(2*(3+9)) makes significantly more sense than (48*(3+9))/2 in this example. Wolfram doesn't take into account a lot of things and if you have done any maths past high school you would know a computer is only as useful as the person that enters the equation.
>>
>>39222378

(48/2)*(3+9) which is (48*(3+9))/2 is different to 48/(2*(3+9))

I call an electrician and have him fix the wiring because there's no goddamned good reason to have a switch that turns on a light in a room up the stairs from you so far away that you can't even SEE it, makes ZERO sense, someone must have fucked up and whichever switch it is that controls it must need to be connected to something closer to it on the first floor. Also I think this might violate most local and federal building codes so it has to be changed regardless. What a stupid test, at least use something realistic.

Not in life, really. Just lifting.
I'm tired of my lifts not really going where I want them to be, but mostly I'm tired of the powerlifting shit of grinding lifts so much - or, if I don't grind them, find out I'm advancing even less. My only decent lift is the deadlift. I've grown to really dislike back squats and, while I don't mind benching, mine is nothing worth mentioning. And even then, I worry that if I leave and at some point decide to come back, all my (weak) hard-gained lifts will have gone to the shitter and I'll have thrown the time I've already spent training away.

I'm considering going into oly - although I have shitty leverages and am even less likely to be competitive at any level - or back to general strength training - although I don't know what to do at my level besides 5/3/1.

sorry for the blogpost

>Are you sure you clicked on the right thread friend?
Absolutely. Bodyweight matters a fuck lot in a sport with weight classes. Big totals don't necessarily win you a meet. A good wilks score does.
>>
>>39222983
>A good wilks score does.
Not really. Putting up the biggest total in your weight class wins you a meet. The swedish nats silver medalist in -105 kg could've gone up to -120 kg and he would've gotten gold, despite his wilks score getting worse.
>>
>>39222967
Intermediate feels. You need to eat more and do more volume. Try TM/Madcow instead. 5/3/1 is a bit of a plod. Why not just try doing a bit of fun lifting for a while? Do some variations? No one is holding a gun to your head when it comes to your training.

To be honest if it's not for you mate, it's not. At the end of the day, if you don't enjoy it anymore you're not going to be in the right mindset to progress any way.

I'm not consistent with mobility work at all, depending on how you look at it.
I think that, beyond the ROM necessary for the lifts, additional flexibility isn't a good thing.
I also think that if you have to stretch a lot, there's some underlying problem which causes the muscles to get tight (to protect the body).

When my hip issue was way worse, I didn't know I had a leg length discrepancy.
I stretched and stretched my hip all the time, and every time it would just get hurt and tight again.
After finding out and addressing the underlying problem, I rarely have to stretch it anymore.

Yeah, I do my curls.
It's not that bad, I just don't do skullcrusher-type shit.

That's a load of horse crap mate. It's what people who don't stretch say to justify it.

You have had a series of issues such as patellar tendonitis which can be caused by tight quads. You know what lower back and hip pain can be caused by? Tight hamstrings.

Do your mobility work and hate lifting less.

>>
>>39223629
I'm sorry, but it's true.
If you need to stretch a lot, there's a good chance you're ignoring an underlying issue.

Sure, tight quads can excerbate patellar tendinitis, which is why I did do those stretches when I got it.
Sure, lower back and hip pain can be caused by tight hamstrings.

It's just that after you gain the required range of motion, you shouldn't have to put in much more time stretching.

I'm not sure who it was, but I listened to a few podcasts of some really knowledgeable strength coaches, and one of them said that he found the ones who always did a lot of mobility work were the ones injured all the time, not the people that only did a bit.

>>39223782
Perhaps I should be less flippant in my answer. I have an underlying issue with my hip and I am managing the pain through stretching when you're right, I should get it checked out instead.

When it comes to the required range of motion, that does get reduced again if you neglect mobility work for a significant period of time. So stretching twice a week will maintain it.

Don't neglect it because whatever gains you have made are quickly lost.
>>
>>39223821

I hope a PT will be able to help.
I had to go through several to get the help I needed.

>When it comes to the required range of motion, that does get reduced again if you neglect mobility work for a significant period of time.
Just doing the lifts through full range of motion will make you keep that mobility.
I think the major reason muscles get tight over time is the workload imposed on them.
If you don't impose much stress on them and go through a full ROM each workout, it'll take a very long time for your mobility to diminish.
On the other hand, not imposing much stress will also give you no gains, so it's a trade off.
The higher the workload, the more often you'll need to stretch.

For an average intermediate, stretching whatever muscles get worked heavily shouldn't take more than 10~30 minutes a week.
(I pulled those numbers out of my ass, but they serve as an indicator)

>>
>>39224847
23 year old male at ~80kg.
>>

>>39224854
also, 4 years, not 3.
>>
>>39224854
I don't know what's wrong with you

I'm not trying to be mean but if you've been training for 3 years and physically cannot push yourself harder than 85jg for 3 on the squat, you might want to go get your test levels checked out.
>>
>>39224871
Oh, I did. 384.
Doc said it's within the normal range.

well I loaded my predicted 4rm on the bar and pulled it ezpz

Isn't that basically inflation
>>
>>39224895
Are you doing progressive overload? Are you actually feeling like you're training hard? Or do all your workouts feel easy? You said you're eating, but are you sleeping? Are you sure you're getting enough protein? I don't see how your squat can go down from 120 to 85 for 3 in 3 years. If you're doing everything right try more volume. And if that fails, just start roiding
>>

Yes, yes, no, yes, yes.
I've tried ~15 sets a week (on average), and that didn't work.
Maybe that was too much.

I'll try ~10 sets a week now.

Okay. If you're under recovering that's bad. I do 9 sets of squat per week plus some heavy singles and front squats once in a while. Quite taxing. 10 sets will likely be better. If you don't succeed with that, roid is all I can tell you

Last time I got mine checked, it was 385, and I squat 3pl8 after three years (though that's with two back injuries, a knee injury, and a shoulder injury, so it might not be comparable). It's probably not your test levels.
>>
>>39224965
Thanks man.

I'll get it eventually.
Might take me a few more years, but no problem.
>>
>>39224972
Got hip, knee and shoulder injuries too.
No real back injury though.

Yeah, I didn't think it was entirely due to my test levels.
Shit test would impair progress, but not this much, true.
>>
>>39225013
Oh, well yeah injuries are a different story. But still....

Well, good luck

I put the three of them on because it's not my house so I don't give a fuck
If it was my house I would know which are what.
I would be not retarded enough to put a switch downstairs for a room upstairs anyway
