You can push it up enough to help support if the weight feels uncomfortable. It won't change anything as lomg as you drive the squat with your legs and don't press the bar during the movement.

I used a pad in the days before I had any trap development. Nowadays, I don't need it at all. I only squat lmao100kg, so I'm not sure if you might need it at heavier weights.

I usually brew a tea or hot chocolate before coming in. I also don't do back exercises because they're bad for the back.
