Going to the gym alone gives me anxiety. It's a lot better with a friend, especially if you're of a similar fitness level.

get a gym partner thats as fat or fatter than you, they will eventually stop going, but by then you will have the confidence to go

Just go, stick your headphones on, and do your own thing. Ignore everyone else there, chances are they don't give a shit about you. I have been going for a little over a year and I haven't spoken to a single other person there in that time, and have never been aware of anyone looking at me.

It really isn't that bad, most people just want to be left alone and do their own thing too.
