Please do leg day tallfags you're missing out on enhanced GH release and test production.

As a manlet I'm assuming we're different biologically. My guess is do more strength training. Low rep high set work because you're probably spending more energy because of increased energy consumption on 3x8-12 and thats a waste if you're not eating 4.5k cals a day at 6'4.
>>
You have very high calorie needs compared to other guys

Calisthenics will actually net really good results

Power lifting, and ego lifting with squats and the like is going to be really fucking difficult for tall guys, unless you are physically built to do those exercises REALLY easy.

Full range of motion is good but don't be afraid to use a shorter range of motion to fully exhaust the muscle.
You'll almost have too because the amount of energy needed for a full range of motion lift will tire you out before your muscle is fully worked. Unless you have really good work capacity.

Rack pulls for deadlifts, if you choose to do them
ATG Squats are going to be nearly impossible if you aren't flexible and aren't built for it.
Bench press is going to be difficult to gain mass from
OHP is pretty damned tough as well.

All major lifts require shitloads of work capacity compared to average sized and shorter men.
This is why I firmly believe that calisthenics will net really good gains for us and that lifting should be done only if you can do it comfortably and are able to do shorter range of motion lifts to fully hit the muscle on top of full range of motion lifts.
>>
>>39115195
Oh but it's so worth it to look and feel better around manlets.
>>
>>39115408
6'5 with 6'6 wingspan
ive used a lot of time to practice form on squats and deadlifts so they are okay

i totally agree on the rom, i cant squat more than 5 reps before im too tired to keep going

anyhow i have built my way up to 225 on squats squatting to 90 degrees, benchpress is weak as fuck, 135 for 5 max and im dieing. Deadlifting feels easy, i've been lifting casually for like a year and im deadlifting 330 for 3 reps.
>>
I am 186cm with a 188cm wingspan.

In terms of lifts;
High bar squats, or front squats "feel" better, narrow stance too
I find bench pressing easier with a slightly narrower grip, same with ohp.
Deadlifting with long arms is almost like a rackpull due to ROM I'd rather do a platform deadlift

personally I think being tall is a big advantage athletically speaking, not so much for perceived muscle size...

Yea you can get big but don't your advantages running jumping, throwing etc too
>>
>>39114907
This. You need to focus on width in the shoulders and back to keep from looking rectangular. A thin waist helps obviously but not if you are narrow up top too.
>>
>>39115327
>tallfags
>missing GH
Nice joke.
>>
>>39115487
330 DL, but 135 BP? That doesn't sound like just a height issue. What do you do for assistance work?
>>
>>39115750
I only do benchpress and dumbellpress with a little incline
>>
>>39115750
>6'6 arm span
>probably not more than 20" shoulders so both arms are 29" each
The dude is basically doing a rackpull instead of a deadlift due to his leverages. Also, his arms are more than 4 inches longer than mine (5'9 manlet benching 185 after 6 months). Do some calculations. That added length in moment arm does a shitton to hinder your gains and increase your ROM.
>>
>>39115487
6'4" here. My stats at one year were 2/3.5/4/5.

Guys like you are responsible for that stupid lanklet meme.
>>
>>39114896

>>
>>39115487
>too tired to squat more than 5 reps

>1pl8 bench

Boi, you're not suffering because you're tall, you're suffering because you are a fucking pussy. You think basketball players and volleyball players stop at 5 reps? Fuck, even WWE wrestlers? Sack up bitch boy.
>>
>>39115408
>shorter range of motion to fully hit the muscle?

>>

They're on gear you absolute fucking retard.
Go shill your "Squat or you're a pussy" to the stupid teen boys and dumb broads who don't fucking know any better.
>>
>>39115999
There is full range of motion
Go all the way up in a bench go all the way down with a bench
There is short range of motion
Go half way up then come down or go half way down and go all the way up.

Doing partials or half reps allows you to more fully focus on what ever muscle you are trying to build up.
It also allows you to lift heavier in a shorter range of motion.

Try it.

stop lying, we all know that huge height means small gains
>>
Don't wanna post pics because 4chinz.

But I'm 6'5 with about a 6'6 wingspan.

Started working out at 17, I was the same height but 185 pounds.

Now I'm 24 and weigh about 235 pounds and I'm pretty lean.

What works for me is (off the top of my mind:

>eat a lot and often
>don't eat garbage
>give 100% in every workout
>do a lot of high rep squeezing type exercises focusing really really hard on that mind muscle connection
>go heavy as fuck on compound exercises
>work on my core every single workout (very important because of our long ass bodies.. The core needs to be strong to provide us with stability and strength for lifts etc.)
>work on my flexibility as well

I work out 6 to 7 times a week.
I spend about 2 hours in the gym per day.
>>

Train strongman.
>>
>>39115575
I'm exactly as tall as you and I agree 100%. Been lifting since July.
Squatting is so difficult (5x100kg high bar) but at the same time it's no problem to deadlift 3pl8.
The narrower the grip the more I seem to activate my chest muscles, also that way it's easier to keep elbows tucked in.

I just want to reach 2,5pl8 squat but on leg days I feel like my knees are going to explode.
>>
>>39115873
if those were actually your stats at a year you are a genetic freak

2pl8 OHP in a year is absolutely ridiculous progress
>>
>>39114896
lifting does not work any differently when you're tall retard

if you're tall with long limbs be prepared to deadlift the world and be unable to bench your dick, though
>>
>>39116113
>mind muscle connection
>core work

/thread

Tall guys find it way harder to lift with proper form, for years I was doing bench press with my shoulders as the primary mover. And being taller you need a stronger core because a longer torso needs more stability. Fml I need to work my core
>>
>>39114896
6'1 here I love deadlifts and OHP but hate squat and bench
>>
>>39116330
Well, they aren't e-stats, if you're wondering. I've never considered myself a freak, I just really enjoy lifting.
>>
>>39115487
are you me?
>>
>>39116391
Good to see a fellow tallbro who isn't a lanklet, your ohp progress is insane senpai
I had a 6.5pl8 deadlift after a year of lifting but it took me forever for a 2pl8 ohp
>>
>>39116391
you're a fucking freak if you hit 225 overhead press in 1 year

an absolute freak

for that matter, your 3.5pl8 bench is equally freaky, and the squat and dead are not too far behind that

you should probably compete in strength sports
>>
>>39116391
Man if you could post a body pic that'd be really motivating. I'm still a beginner and at like to see what kind of physique us tall guys can have.
>>
>>39116436
(muffled 'YEAH BUDDY!!!' in the distance)
>>
>>39116431
His squat and deadlift aren't freaky, but they are above average progress for a tallbro who isn't a lanklet, his ohp and bench progress is very good though, and could probably hang with some of the elite pressers within the next few years
>>
>>39115630
What if you look wide from the back due to a decent upper back but narrower from the front? Is that lack of shoulder development?
>>
>>39116417

Yeah no
I broke a junior national record with a 7pl8 deadlift after 1.5 years lifting

Well thanks guys, that's quite an ego boost for me. I would absolutely love to be competing in WSM, but I know steroids would be necessary to compete at any real level.

I'm not a sexy guy, I'm a big guy, my diet is 4-5kcals per day minimum. If I ever chose to cut down I would be pretty damn shredded. I love being strong too much for that though. I can try to find a pic if you really want though.
>>
>>39116654
>>39116545
What's your squat?

There's 150lbs of distance between my deadlift and squat, also similarly suck shit at bench press.

Probably just need to eat more and get bigger.
>>
>>39116665
>tfw used to want to compete in strongman and bulk to 180kg bodyweight
Too bad I have shitty blood pressure genetics and had to cut down otherwise I'd be freakishly big and on steroids right now lol

You should try it out though man if thats your thing, I want another anon to do it since I wasn't able
>>
>>39116673

Anyone want to explain what lifts are most affected by being tall?

I’m 6’4”, and my little brother is 6’8”. The only thing I’ve really noticed is that he finds squats difficult.

I don’t want to make any excuses for myself, but I am curious if there are any lifts that my height actually works against me.

>inb4 you have to moving the weight further
Yeah, obviously. Besides that.
>>
>>39116735
with greater height usually come limbs that are longer proportional to your height

long arms are a disadvantage on pressing exercises, long femurs are a big disadvantage on squats

long limb short torso build is excellent for deadlifts
>>
>>39116173
After lifting for as long as I have been, you kinda don't really count sets that much anymore. But for example on a push day I might do something like 15 sets for chest outside of the 5-10 I do for compounds (bench etc) then of course Triceps.. Maybe 10 to 15 sets.

>>39116359
Just force yourself to work it everyday. That's what works for me. If I try every other day or some shit I'll get lazy. But for whatever reason training core everyday makes me want to train it everday.

I love the events, they're all so much fun. Super yoke and pressing events are my favorite.

Tbh, the only thing holding me back from competition is the steroids. I really don't know where to start with that stuff. A coach would be nice too, I've been training myself from day one.
>>
>>39116722
How'd you injure yourself? Knees?
>>
>>39116735
Nothing more than the average height person, it's just most tall guys have long femurs, short torsos and long arms which sucks for squatting and benching, but is great for deadlift.

Just get bigger and stronger and you'll find out what you'll struggle with.

>long femurs = shitter squat
>long arms = shitter pressing/better deadlift
>short femurs = good squatting
>short arms = better pressing/shitter deadlift

Measure your proportions and you'll see what you're "supposed" to be good at or bad at, but you can still always get strong as fuck despite bad leverages
>>
>>39116779
Find a strongman gym near you man, or find a coach, a coach and a good training facility is invaluable.

>>39116800
Lumbar facet joint strain, wasn't that serious but I've had to lay off squatting anything above 3pl8 for a while, and last week I thought I was good but went to 4pl8 for a triple and did a minor tear of my hip flexor

So now set back even further :/

I guess I'll stick to deadlifting and pressing for a while and just start with babbyweight on squats and see a sports physio once I'm healed again :'(

>>
Do not listen to those saying, 'if you are tall, don't do x, you can't do x' This is a bullshit mentality. Nothing is easy to begin with. Everything takes practice and discipline to achieve results in the gym.

I am 6'5" and roughly 290lbs (relatively lean, 15%?) I have been doing powerlifting and strongman events for some time.

When I first started, yes, squatting was a difficult movement. I didn't go low. My knees and back hurt. I couldn't use much weight, etc.
My deadlift was weak. My back was rounded. My setup and form was terrible.
My benchpress was shit. Poor technique, low weight, pain, injuries and so on.

Now, I squat over 700lbs and deadlift almost 800lbs. My bench is over 500lbs. I can log press over 350lbs. I won't list all of my other disciplines, but my point is, I've come a long way across the board, but not without heavy persistence and determination to become a better athlete.

If you can't squat lower than parallel, you need to stretch and do mobility work.
If your back rounds when you deadlift and you have trouble locking out, you need to use more leg drive.
If benching hurts your shoulders, you need to keep you elbows tucked.

There is an answer for everything and your height is not a fucking excuse.
>>
>>39117736
I can't speak for anyone else but I wasn't using my height as an excuse. I'd personally hate to be shorter.
Nice stats btw, how long did it take?

>>
>>39117941

>The point.
>You.

The point of my post really has nothing to do with how much I personally lift. Yes, I take steroids. I live and breathe this and am an athlete competing in several paid competitions every year. I do what is necessary to be the best.

However, if you take time to read and not just spout this 'hurr durr he takes roids' nonsense, I am talking about not adapting negative attitudes and mentalities and being able to achieve simple movements that every healthy man or woman should be able to do, pain free and with full range of motion, regardless of height.

No. 99.9% of people will not achieve these numbers that I have with the assistance of steroids (not the ridiculous amount that you state, leading me to believe that you don't have a clue what you are talking about to begin with.)

However, this doesn't mean that significant lifts are not achievable naturally with a smart strength training program and coach.

Your ACHIEVE YOUR DREAMS JUST BE LIKE ME nonsense doesn't apply to everyone.

Sure you might "inspire" a few people with the genetics to try, but for everyone else it will be a slap in the face.

You are an athlete and supposedly at the top of the game not just because of hardwork, because people work hard every day and achieve fuck and all, but because you are genetically gifted.

Most people are not.

Empty platitudes are easy to give and make you feel really good. It might even do some good.

Lots of loaded carries, clean and press overhead and anteriorly loaded squats and carries. Front and especially zercher squats will feel better for you.

>'because people work hard every day and achieve fuck and all'

This is called: Not. Working. Hard. Enough.

I am not genetically gifted. I have been a skinny rake most of my life. I was bullied in high school for having a head supposedly too big for my tall, skinny body.

When I was younger and before I started taking anything, I ate huge (and I do mean huge, high calorie) amounts of food every day. EVERY day, because I didn't want to be that tall, skinny guy anymore.
No 'Aw I feel yucky today. I don't wanna.' or 'I'm sick, I'll just take it easy.'
Wanting to throw up after every meal. Five to eight times a day.

The same mentality in the gym. Loving the pain. Not stopping at 7 reps because it hurts too much. Taking a breath and struggling through 5 more.

Mentality is everything;
Keep feeling bad for yourself.
Tell yourself your genes are to blame.
You won't ever be like that guy because x.
You certainly won't achieve jack shit.

6'1 with extremely long femurs here.

Squatting with long femurs is different. I spent about a year really struggling with weight distribution and stalling on my squat because I was listening to other people and even went to a PT and they were trying to get me to squat with my legs the normal width average people squat with. I was constantly deloading and finding myself unable to push my squat up, people that were trying to help me couldn't figure out how I was putting in so much work and eating good and having all my other lifts go up but was still being forced to deload on my squat constantly. It was hindering my entire workout and eventually caused me to stall out completely and take several breaks off lifting throughout the year out of sheer frustration.

Your weight distribution with a squat needs to be on your heels, so your legs need to be wide enough apart so that you can maintain balance with the bar over mid-foot and your weight falling onto your heels and not tipping forward to your toes. This is extremely important in order for performing the lift correctly and being able to push your squat higher safely.

This means you need a wide stance, a wider stance than most people you will interact with while lifting. People may not be used to seeing someone squat this way and try to get you to change your stance width, they are wrong. This is ok.

People think my squat is ridiculously wide but its just because of my physiology. We all have different bodies and its important to remember that your body is going to affect and alter the way you perform the compound lifts. This is true of all lifts.

Experiment at low weight until you figure out which way to safely perform the exercise while ensuring that you are activating the correct muscle groups and maintaining balance. Break down your exercises and be conscious of your physiology and realize that every exercise is not cut and paste from what you read online.

Just lift more than short people
T. 6'5 235 11%bf

It's really not that hard. Sure your weight you're pushing won't be as high because of the longer limbs, but you can be ten times as aesthetic if you just keep lifting.

Squat with your heels on micro weights.
I find it allows for greater ROM.

are you trolling / baiting, or do you seriously believe this?

being tall hasn't hindered my deadlifts at all. actually i pull convention easier because i have long arms. ATG squats are fine too. i work on mobility and use lifting shoes.

bench progress is a little slow for me but that's not generally true based on height. you can mess with grip width to tinker with ROM if you want (i gain chest mass more from weighted dips and incline bench anyway... bench is more an ego thing for me).

OHP is fine too. first lift i hit 1/2/3/4 for.
