I see a lot of people making fun of him and SS. Why exactly?
>>
>>39109359
No one will understand just how fucking HARD the program is. The program is TOUGH and most people aren't willing to do it, they mostly just want their abs
>>
>>39109359
Because he's fat and thinks there's only one way to train and the way he trains people doesnt correspond with anything elite level athletes teach.

>Everyone must lowbar squat!
>Teaches cleans retardedly
>Encourages eating like a pig and has no concept of nutrition
>Has never trained ANYONE who has done well in anything - powerlifting - bodybuilding - sports - oly lifting
>Etc...

He's just dumb. He's parroted only on novice forums but ask any big guy (4u) or decent powerlifter if they've done Starting Strength and they'll say no

It's actually hilarious. Online he's like some fitness lord and his routine is recommended to every beginner but irl no one does this shit
>>
>>39109359
because people don't understand how powerful linear daily progression is for a beginner lifter. If you do the maths its insane how fast you grow on this program
>>
>>39109427
Your waist does grow in diameter
>>
>>39109412
>Online he's like some fitness lord and his routine is recommended to every beginner but irl no one does this shit

Because people don't want to get big, they want to stay the same bodyfat, weight and they want their lifts to go up.

The first 6months (novice) of lifting is the time when you can gain the most amount of strength possible in the SHORTEST amount of time possible. You have to eat to milk those gains. No other program can do it. Because people don't want to eat.

The program works if you trust him and follow what he says. Once you're past intermediate 24 months of lifting you'll make progress maybe once a month instead of once every DAY as a novice.
>>
>>39109434
why's that? Is it something about linear daily progression that makes your fat? Controlling your diet is separate from the program. Your waist can grow in diameter doing some fully sik zyzz split brah
>>
>>39109427
You'd grow faster on a 6 day ppl
>inb4 muh strength tho :'(
>>
>>39109443
and the program only lasts for 6months at BEST. then you'll make WEEKLY gains with something like Texas Method instead of DAILY gains
>>
>>39109443
Find me a single serious lifter who's done ss.

You can't. I've asked every single guy who I've seen deadlift 3pl8+ for reps if they've done SS.

None. None have done it so far
>>
>>39109476
Because you don't live in Texas mate. No ones going to listen to some guy they heard about on the internet. If you actually went in and SPOKE to the fucking guy you'd understand what he's trying to do.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHeotStokVE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZxi58KtGdA
>>
>>39109476
>Deadlift 3+ pl8
Why are you asking guys on ss if they did (past tense) ss
They are doing ss (present tense)
>>
crappy routine that is perpetuated by the lowest IQ members of /fit/ in their echo chamber.

this is a guy who says conditioning isn't necessary, doing squats will give you all the fitness you need.
>>
people who think SS doesnt work either a) didnt do it at all or b) didnt do it properly

>>39109533
that's not what he says you mouth breather

he says if you want to get STRONG conditioning isnt necessary. its objectively true

hes not a fitness coach, hes a strength coach
>>
>>39109359
because it avoids the staple of the average gym-quitter
>goes to gym expecting athletic physique
>starts with curls in the squat rack
>maybe some bench press with just the bar
>some more curls in the squat rack
>goes home, repeat tomorrow
>quit when it doesn't work

it avoids people having to actually make their own research and learn how their bodies work by just telling them "do this" and they'll notice it works along the way when suddenly they're squatting 2 plates as a beginner and all that strength converts into stronger lifts across the board which in turn converts into faster, more effective muscle growth
>>
I've done just about every routine out there. SS is definitely the way to go for anyone who wants to bodybuild or powerlift and is just starting out. Nothing else will get you gains like SS unless you consider isolating upper body only gains.
>>
>>39109476
I've been doing SS for about seven weeks, and I'll be at 3pl8 deadlift in another 3-4 weeks. The program works incredibly if you actually eat and follow it. However, most of us that follow the program and succeed don't spend much time combatting all of the salty split simpletons on this board.

More generally, there are tons of programs and many people don't follow one at all, so it's not saying much to point out that your friends didn't do SS.
>>
>>39109598
To be fair, he does sometimes say this and it's pretty dumb. He frequently trashes running and suggests that a strength program gives you all the cardio work you need.

t. SS convert
>>
>>39109691
no he doesnt, he always says being stronger will transfer over to your sport. He says an athelete who strength trains will be better than the same athelete who doesnt strength train

>He says an athelete who strength trains will be better than the same athelete who doesnt strength train
This is maximum retarded. And athelete who endurance trains will be better than the same athelete who doesnt endurance train. And athelete who flexibility trains will be better than the same athelete who doesnt flexibility train. So what?
>>
>>39109878
For most big-ticket American sports, strength is the most important trainable skill.
>>

LOL

>>

It's really just a meme for retards.
>>
>>39109494
>you'd understand what he's trying to do.
Make a lot of money from suckers?
>>
>>39109691
He specifically says that FOR A NOVICE who was previously sedentary, strength training will provoke an endurance adaptation. He recommends intermediate and beyond do interval training if they aren't also doing sports specific practice - prowler sprints if they have one, erging if they don't.
>>
>>39109957
>He specifically says that FOR A NOVICE who was previously sedentary, strength training will provoke an endurance adaptation. He recommends intermediate and beyond do interval training if they aren't also doing sports specific practice - prowler sprints if they have one, erging if they don't.
What? I never read the book but that#s just bullshit. Is Rippetoe even a sports scientist or something similar? Or just a "I'm a PL coach, listen to me!" guy?
>>
>>39109955
Ah yes, because a barebones introductory barbell program is a cash cow. Unlike the fancy special gym program he abandoned and denounced for being too flashy and commercial.

I can't tell whether you people are trolls or genuinely mentally deficient.
>>
>>39109955
>Make a lot of money from suckers?
he's doing pretty poorly for the amount of time he's been in the gym business. His books have only sold 350,000 copies
>>
Because 90% of people on this board have no idea what they're talking about. I honestly don't understand how people can be so tech savvy but lack the foresight to read the sticky and go over the programs there, they're fantastic.

Do SS, then Bill Stars 5x5. Afterwards do whatever routine you want, just make sure the numbers go up and you Deadlift, Squat, Press and Bench. Do cardio 3 times a week. Eat at an excess, just make sure the food is useful.

Boom, this entire board and the majority of threads just became irrelevant.
>>
>>39109949
You do realise that SS the routine is more or less the same as the routine that high school and college level strength coaches have been using to prepare kids to play contact sports with since the mid-20th century, right?

Oh, to be 15 again.

>>39110034
Has the Great Gatsby also been spammed everywhere for years now?
>>
Because strength is a meme and it's an easy as fuck routine that is done in very few hours at the gym per week.

We don't want 3000 threads a day of beginners asking about specifics over lifting programs when 95% of people don't stick with a program over 3 months.

So that's literally the easiest program to give noobs so they fuck off.
>>
>>39110051
>No, it's shit. Your butthurt won't change that.
You missed the sarcasm, lad.
>>

>>
>>39109748
Both Tinytrip and Zyzz didn't do SS.

Zyzz thought SS was retarded but while he would never recommend it himself, he said it's better than not having any routine going in...
>>
>>39110065
*talks, sorry new phone.
>>
>>39110054

wrong.

SL is the easiest routine to give noobs.

SS + accessories is the best routine for noobs.
>>
>>39110068

Zyzz used steroids.
>>
>>39109412
im a novice to power cleans, currently doing them the way he wrote in SS. what is wrong with his method?
>>
>>39109984
Exactly.

What people miss most is that SS isn't a routine so much as it is a technique manual. The type of program it espouses has been known to work for decades - it's more or less the same program you'd see being used in a high school weight room any time from 1960 to the early 2000s to get kids strong.

The backlash against both SS and Rip comes from 3 groups:

1. Know nothing fuckwits who don't want to work hard or don't even realise why/how 3x5 on a given exercise becomes excruciating towards the end of an LP. Fortunately nobody cares what they think. Unfortunately there's thousands of them. They're the source of the umpteen 'SS variants' posted on the web that bare no resemblance to the program Rip actually has people do, and I'd estimate the source of most of the 'SS doesn't work' complaints.

2. Buttmad 'Olympic weightlifters' who have about as much chance achieving a competitive total as anyone of /fit/ does of having sex with a woman who hate Rip because muh technique, despite the fact that anyone who finishes SS is likely going to power snatch more than their clean. These are the most virulent and bitter by far, but thankfully there's only like ten of them because weightlifting in the US has managed to cuck itself out of existence.

3. People who think they disagree with him but don't. Most of the arguments levelled against him by people who actually know what they're talking about fall here.

Rip himself strikes me as a nice guy who gets pissed off at the sheer number of people who don't follow his advice then get pissed off at him when their bench stalls at 150lbs.
>>
Is this the Trappy-chan-summon thread?
>>
>>39110097
Nothing, except that if you happen to do them like that in front of anyone who thinks they're an 'Olympic weightlifter' they will shit their pants in anger.
>>
>>39110086
Zyzz was natty the first year he started lifting. He was always very frank with his juicing, he allegedly studied for weeks before he started lifting as to what path would give him the juiciest gains the fastest.
>>
>>39110097
>>39110123
It's contrary to anything any Olympic couch will ever recommend.
>>
>>39110080
>SS + accessories is the best routine for noobs

Nah.

While not perfect, these are really good if literally the only thing you care about it aesthetics (90% of people posting on /fit/).
>>
>>39110133
Olympic coaches in the US make a production of 'teaching' the clean and snatch and most of their lifters never get anywhere.

SS coaches simplified the process to something you can teach in a single session, and most of the people they teach can use the clean productively thereafter.

Judoist said that he won at competition a man of his level that could bench 150 kg while he can bench only 90 kg.
Greco-roman wrestler said that before achieving master of sprots he never touched the barbell, only kettlebels, pull up bar and dip bars.

Fuck you all, we have 28 free programs, we have Greg Nuckols advice start from 3x8, then move to 5x5 and then to 5x3, we have really good coach Eric Cressey who tells that beginner should do tons of bodyweight exercises, one leg squats and etc, but "NO, I' DON'T WANT TO USE ADVICES AND PROGRAMS OF GOOD COACHES, I WANNA SUCK RIPP'S COCK!!!"
>>

Obviously, if you want to train for rugby or hockey or soccer or some such, conditioning will have to be done, and he says as much.

A person lifting for aesthetics (assuming they don't rely entirely on machines) will still be stronger than your average person and generally useful to have around. Purely lifting for strength to push PR numbers up is just as egotistical as aesthetics except strengthfags like to pretend they have some kind of moral high ground.
