/fit/ I need help. I am a newbie and have been doing SS for a little bit. I'm just curious as to why I can Dead lift 1.5x my BW 10 times but I can barely do a single pull up. My friend says it's just about grip strength, others say I have no back strength. What is it? And if the solution is solvable, how can I do my first pull up in a day.

It's all in your back. If you can't do at least 10 wide gripped pull ups, youre either:
A:Weak as fuck
B:Fat as fuck
C:Disproportionate as fuck

or a combination of the above.

Do lat pulls like no tomorrow. drop set to absolute failure. most gyms also have cheater machines for weaklings who can't do one unassisted...

you can't. how long have you been operating a human body? that' not how that shit works.

Deads and pullups work pretty different muscles. for pull ups do pendely rows or renegade rows and some curls.
I'd suggest you look up which exercise works what. the internet is pretty helpful with that kind of stuff.

If you want to do pull-ups you should train by doing pull-ups. Also you're probably heavy. DL 1.5x your BW isn't impressive and the guys who can do sets of weighted pull-ups can do atleast 2x their BW on a DL.


I always sucked in pull-ups. When I lost 40lbs and started doing them(doing sets of 1 at the start) I became better at them. Still can't do a lot, but can atleast do it 5x5.

All the advice here is good. It's totally normal for pull up to be much weaker than DL.
What is shorter range of motion
What are hips and legs
What is less need to stabilize

Second. Pullup pro here and I can say that most people's form is horrible. Even very ripped guys can just suck. Learn the right way and start with negatives. You WILL get there
