It allows you to be competitive in a lift you're not supposed to be competitive at.

If you have great deadlift leverages, you'll be terrible at bench and squat

If you have great bench leverage, you'll be terrible at deadlifts

If you have great squat leverage, you'll be terrible at deadlifts

But widening the stance reduces the range of motion which allows someone with great bench and squat leverages to be equally good at deadlifts making them good at all the three lifts which is cheating the anatomy

My school is having a not super serious powerlifting competition a month from now, and I plan on joining. Been lifting for a bit over a year, I'm 5'8 160 lbs and my lifts alright, probably about average for my weight:

Bench 225 x 5
Squat 275 x 5
Diddy 285 x 5


I haven't 1RM tested in a while. I know there's not much time to really add a lot of weight to my lifts, but what should I do to train for the comp? Thanks

It's really weird for me. Ever since I started lifting and browsing plg I havent been able to relate to more than a few people. Everyone wants to "get laid" or "go party and get wasted" but I just really want tk get stronger and focus on my career.

Plg and lifting have helped me realize and define who I am, but it's hard to keep faith in the definition of myself that Ive molded while constantly being bombarded with signs and statements to the contrary. Chatting with twinkle and weasley is one thing, but being around a bunch if strange randos in a club is another.

After driving people home Im just gonna do some pullups, go for a run, and go to bed. This has all been very strange.
