I keep my tv on all the time when I'm awake as background noise. I usually don't watch it very much though. I just put on family guy or american dad reruns on netflix and just have it playing there. Even when I go grocery shopping I throw in some headphones.

Am I building a dependency on tv? Does anybody else do this? Is it unhealthy, or an addiction even?

I can't help but feel like I'd be so much more productive if I just shut it off or stayed the fuck off of 4chan. Like right now, I could be prepping myself for my engineering courses coming up this summer. Is life just constantly doing shit that you don't want to in order to improve and make money?

I feel like it interferes with a /fit/ lifestyle even when I'm not watching it. Hope this makes sense. Anybody care to weigh in on this?

Don't be scared of your own mind. Turn off the noise and tune into your own thoughts. Daily reflection leads to daily progression.

Silence is important. Meditation is healthy.

So yeah, shut the shit off and just embrace it. Any idea how long it takes for my mind to calm the fuck down and not be overwhelming and depressing?

A lifetime.

It's a skill and like any skill it takes constant upkeep and dedication to maintain. It's very easy to fall back into the life of constant distraction if you're not careful and practiced.

Try for 10 minutes at a time or go on a walk with nothing but your mind. Don't have expectations of this time. Just clear your mind as best you can. Reflect on yourself and your situation.

>life of constant distraction
Couldn't have said it better man. That's exactly how I feel like I'm living.

Reflection usually leads to depression in my case. Think that will go away with more time spent doing it?

I go insane if I don't have some silence for a while daily. What really helps is if you just go on a half hour walk every morning/evening (I usually do morning because there are very little people out and the cool air is really nice). It really clears my head and makes me feel like everything will be okay.

Man, I wish I was that way. I start thinking about death, loneliness, how I'm not where I want to be, that type of shit every single time I'm alone with my thoughts. Maybe I'm just sabotaging myself.

Depression is a state of mind that indicates that you are in need of change. It's a feeling of complete dissatisfaction.

Reflection, especially deep repeated reflection often leads to the seeds of this dissatisfaction. Once identified it's up to you to initiate the change in order to elevate yourself out of depression.

This isn't always easy, but it's a lot like working out. No one gets immediate results, it's the consistent effort that leads to lasting result.

maybe you like being around people more than I do so you should try to hang out with friends or something more, I dunno
>>
>>39078195
Maybe you're right. Silence with company. Like silence adjacent lol.

Thanks for the input man.
>>
>>39078235
Company is distaction. You owe yourself some alone time amigo. It's not like it needs to be hours long. 10 minutes is effective.
>>
>>39078019
try mindfulness meditation maybe.

fpbp

>>39078260
Good point. I'll try to set aside time for quiet reflection and a bit of introversion.

I'll look into it, thanks bro.
