Do you guys stretch before you lift? Is stretching important?
>>
>is stretching important

yes it is

please stretch/massage/roll, /fit/.
>>
I've stretched so much in my life my muscles are now permanently stretched so I don't need to do it anymore.
>>
>>39061604
No I stretch after. (I think it reduces soreness but I can't really tell because I'm a newfag.)

Warmups are the best form of stretching for me. (I was doing stretches before working out for the first 2-3 weeks or so, and I don't think it helped much.)
>>
>>39061604
Read the sticky. Stretch AFTER you train.
>>
>>39061604
No static stretches before or its snap city

You don't tell me what to do
>>
>>39061604
Stretching doesn't actually do anything. You should warm up by doing light cardio or light versions of the exercise.
>>
nigga how is this bitch so flexible

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RPP8bNOIOk
>>
I stretch a little while I'm doing warm up sets because I sit so much.
>>
>>39061658
lmao
>>
>>39061604
a little bit. just to remove stiffness. but stretching is really bad for your lifts so dont do it before work out.
>>
after lifting
>>
Dynamic Stretches > Warm-up > Workout > Static Stretches
>>
>>39061604
Yes, very important. Before and after.
>>
>>39061604
yes, i stretch before DLs and squats. i have horrible ankle mobility and cant break parallel without stretching first. and if i dont stretch before DLs then i cant keep myself close enough to the bar, and wind up straight legging the first few sets.
>>
negative effects of static stretching are greatly exaggerated. But warming up is more important than stretching and you can literally warm up by doing almost anything

Where the fuck were you guys in the other thread were I got flamed for saying static stretches should only be done after the workout?
>>
>>39061870
looks like she's a yogi or whatever, several of those stretches were yoga postures. Informative video, but I felt like a creep for watching it.
>>
>there are people who don't stretch post workout
>there are people who bitch about pain yet they cant do basic stretches
>>
>>39062014
sometimes when you knw for certain a piece of information is legit but people are jumping on you for it, leave it be and don't try to argue.

The people jumping on you are only just starting out and take every piece of information that's contradictory to their beliefs to heart and refuse to believe anything else because that would mean that they might be "doing it wrong and wasting their time". The latter is what most of them are feeling anyway since visual change is slow

Could someone give me some tips on how to go about this?

First time ever on this board.

Never done planned out workouts. I am fit though. I have done strenuous workouts the past two years, but nothing consistent.

Skinny, almost no fat, decent muscle for my size.

Weight: 131 lbs.

Diet: No soda. Water, milk, sweet tea. as for food, it's pretty much whatevers put on my plate. I eat fast food but I refuse to ever order from Burger King or Mcdonalds, and it's not daily. I don't eat any candy of any kind.

I don't know if max's help with knowledge on the subject, but if it helps;

Pull ups: 23
Miles ran in one instance: 7
Deadlift: 225
Benchpress (Standard): 100-105

I'm tired of being a wirey stick, /fit/. All comments appreciated.

do not stretch before lifting.

its been shown to increase likelihood of an injury

this is not a drill.
>>
>>39062205
>do not stretch before lifting.
I disagree.
>its been shown to increase likelihood of an injury
Oh really?

The more you stretch the better imo, it makes your muscles more elastic, basically helps preventing cramps, I know it's painful and boring as fuck but it has to be done.
>>
>>39062095
Or people just fucking with him got shits and giggles because this is the Internet.

Anyways anon if you're still in here, read the sticky, it's honestly the best collection of good advice I've found on the Internet
>>
>>39062303
Why should I read the sticky?
>>
>>39062293
No, stretch after. Before makes you injury prone
>>
>>39062293

stretch, just not before lifting.

again, it's associated with higher risk of injury/tearing. so if you value not being injured (which you must since you're talking about pre-injury care) then DO NOT do it at the start of an exercise session.
>>
>>39062118
My mom's been dead for 13 years
>>
It's very important. I'm having knee problems from tight quads,Loosening them is a fucking nightmare.
>>
>>39061604
I think I read it's important to stretch AFTER. Warm up ahead of time.
>>
>>39062351

>>
>been lifting a while
>never really stretched
>lifting friend comes round
>"you're so tense anon, let me help"
>free sports massage
>"Jesus anon you should stretch more, you have so many knots"

Fuck, it's a weird feeling having her push this little 'lumps' rolling around in my back/shoulders/neck.

Think I'll start stretching before and after lifting as I feel fucking amazing this morning after been worked on.
>>
>>39062193
Obligatory READ THE FUCKING STICKY!

Keeps your eyes peeled for routine threads for workouts. Meal prep threads for diet ideas, so on and so on.

You'll make it anon, just have patience. People who don't have patience usually fail, and you don't want to be a skinny DYEL all you're life do you anon.

You make it, we all will.

>Stretching doesn't actually do anything.
This is why I hate this board sometimes...
>>
What are some good all around stretches but primarily for squats?
>>
>>39062293
Lol what? Stretching before heavy lifting is very bad idea mate, you should warm up before lifting and stretch after lifting,
If you stretch before you are begging to tear a muscle

I did the same,I also gained 5 inches through that. I'm no longer a manlet now
>>
>>39062293
These guys mean static stretches. Listen to what people said earlier. You want to do dynamic stretches before you start your warm up sets. Things like Agile 8 stretches. After you workout perform static stretches and some foam rolling.
>>
>>39061604
No. I used to stretch, but I had constant tendon and ligament issues.

One day I just quit and all those issues disappeared.
>>
I do some dynamic stretches to open up my hips on squat and deadlift days. It really helps.

>>39064149
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBHzXF-mVjY
You can also drop into a pigeon pose at the end of this.
>>
>>39061604
Stretching is super super mega important, for reals.
>>
>>39061604
I do static stretches before going to sleep. I'm not sure if it's broscience or not, but it definitely feels good.
>>
>>39064109
did he help you get rid of your "knot", I mean knots?
>>
Which is better: Dynamic or Static stretching?
>>
All these guys saying it increases your risk of injury but nobody posting studies that have proven this beyond doubt

I static stretch before every session, literally the only way I can squat and deadlift with good form and pain free after sitting at work and in a car for most of the day.

Shitty form will injure you before lifting after static stretches will fucking injure you. If static stretches allow you to loosen up and use proper form, then that's more important.
>>
>>39064686
I do the same. It's not like I stretch so hard I tear a fucking muscle, like the other guys seem to imply.

I do it and then I walk to the gym and go straight for the powercage.
>>
i foam roll my back and my legs before squatting.
then i bounce around in the hole for 30 secs with pushing my knees out with my elbows.
then i do some leg swings, front to back and side to side.
>>
>>39061944
Exactly this, don't not stretch before a workout, don't static stretch before a workout, you still need to get blood in the muscles and some warmth before you start squatting lmao3pl8
