>>
>>39061914
I have a "5x5" day. But it's really 5x at least 4. Basically if I get 20 total reps within 5 sets I allow myself to progress 5lbs to the next week. Two days before that I do heavy singles or doubles, whatever j feel like, and add 5lbs the next week. My third bench day is 3x8. After all of that I just do shittons of accessories. My bench seems to be moving well. My 1rm from 2 weeks ago feels light (225 at 145)
>>
>>39061921
He benches like 100kg but apparently since using this his bench has exploded

it just looks like a generic weekly progression/DUP with a lot of volume. If you bench under 1.5x bodyweight, it'll probably work

How do I fix excessive knee caving out of the hole on squats lads?

This shit is driving me nuts, I never used to do this when I could squat semi decent, now that I've gone through a low back injury and am trying to bring back my strength slowly now that I'm mostly recovered my knees won't stop caving when the weight gets even remotely heavy, and when I forcefully try to keep my knees out even with babbyweighy it feels slow and semi grindy.

Youre not supposed to literally go balls out and keep repping until your joints break or you pass out. Just until form degrades enough it doesn't really resemble the proper movement.

>>39062275
High reps are the best. Build work capacity at higher volumes and lower intensities, then taper it into high intensity.

If you consistently avoid high rep work, that's a weak point that could potentially award you quick and easy gains.
>>
>>39062164
Make sure your elbows stay directly under the bar. It might be the angle, but it seems like your elbows are going a bit in front of the bar.

>>
>>39062190
>>39062329
I've been going to true failure on my 28 memes bench amraps

do you think this is a bad idea?

I don't let form degrade much (butt stays on the bench, touch at the same point on the chest) but I usually go until I can't complete a rep and have the spotter take it

I don't push the envelope like this on squat or dead
>>
>>39062378
I'd say it could lead to some bad habits, or at the very least, make it harder for you to recover between sessions. Cap it at 9-9.5 m8.
>>
>>39062378
Imo it's fine as long as you don't push it too hard. My amraps are usually until I just cant do it anymore but once I went really hard and hit a huge PR but after I sat up from the bench I was extremely dizzy and my eyes were red. Probably not healthy to do that too often

>>39062430

Train the same lifts 3-4x per week, rotate the rep ranges so they're different across the sessions.

That's pretty much the basis of the idea.
>>
>>39062430
>>39062453
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE ANSWER TO THESE TWO GUYS ANYONE AT ALL I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KNOW
>>
>>39062396
Bad habits were mostly what I was worried about. I think I'm still going to push much closer to failure on bench than squat/dead, but a 9.5 cap is probably a good idea for the long term. Thanks

Something about benching to failure with a competent spotter is just fun I guess. True failure on a squat or deadlift scares me, both in terms of injury and taxing myself too much for proper recovery. On bench though, I feel like I can just retard out and have no major consequences

>>39062400
I've never felt near this exerted on bench, even going to true failure. It's probably in part due to sucking at bench and using bitch weight

Just bread and butter with some chicken breast is fucking amazing. Almost cant handle it
>>
>>39062475
Well think about it

Those benchbros/curlbros you see at the gym, doing upper body shit all the time and never squatting, usually have pretty impressive benches. I've seen 315 at 155, 285 at 185, 275 for 5 easy at 220, and so on
>>
>>39062597

yeah I'm just saying that powerlifting has gone through trends, and for a while one of those was that it's not about mass but rather about CNS and efficiency or whatever

it's like how posterior chaining the shit out of everything used to be a legitimate method but now it's viewed as outdated, esp for raw
>>
>>39062619

In fairness, most of the guys talking about efficiency over mass weren't being handed scrawny guys to train. They were getting ex-footballers and so on.
>>
>>39062619
But it kinda is about CNS and efficiency and form at the elite levels. There's a limit to how much mass you can put onto your body. You gain muscle to give you the ability to apply lots of force to the bar, and once you can't get any more muscular, you need to up the intensities and really perfect your form.

For the first 2 or 3 years of lifting, the focus should really be on getting as "big as possible" tbqh. That's why GPP and high volume is so important

And that's why people don't need to be doing sheiko if they can still progress faster than once every few months
>>
>>39062648

yes, I don't disagree with any of this
I'm saying that for a while, even relatively inexperienced and weak powerlifters were getting told all about neural efficiency rather than just doing higher volume. It took until just a few years ago for people to realize that the chief limitation on most intermediate lifters was mass.

Again, I don't disagree, but the main consumers of information on powerlifting are intermediates. Novices are still getting to grips with even going to the gym, and elites have worked all this shit out for themselves already or are already huge
>>
>>39062164
wtf I have the same setup but somehow I always end up raising my ass off the bench. Help?
>>
>>39062329
Thanks, I think I found my problem as to why that's happening.

>>39062701
I've been watching a few videos on bench form.
You might be pressing up through your legs instead of back.
A cue that helped me is to simulate a leg extension pressing your back into the bench instead of pressing up through your hips. This also helps with arching pushing your ass back/ trying to touch your ass to your shoulders
>>
>>39062679
Yep

On a related note, do you know of any good upper body endurance exercises? I was thinking of rowing or swimming, but I was looking for something that uses more pushing muscles, for better bench carryover. My upper body GPP a shit
>>
>>39062740

have you done pushups...? I view them as endurance considering 50 in one go is pretty average

or you could just do some cardio and some higher rep volume in general, it helps with GPP
>>
>>39062740

If you've got access to one, prowler shoves are an idea that keeps popping up. Or more generally, walking the sled around while curling/pressing/etc the handle rather than dragging it like usual is an old-ish westside idea for gpp/recovery.
>>
>>39062755
I run a couple miles a day and I've been doing high rep stuff. I've started to incorporate push-ups, I'm working my way up, starting at 300 per week to 1000 per week. I would do more but I feel like I'd be impeding recovery if I jump into it too quickly
>>
>>39062761
>tfw no prowler or sled

idk, what I know about chinups is that they seem to burn you out really badly at high volume (seems way harder to me to do the 2nd set of high reps at the same quality as the 1st set)

It would be actually fun to experiment with max weight chinups and bulgarian style. As far as I know upper back recovers quickly, so I'll try something like

Upper back recovers quickly, the likely issues you'd run into if anything was to go wrong would be in the shoulder girdle. Or the elbows/wrists if you're really jacked up and have supination issues.
>>
>>39063748

yeah this. Neutral grip may be the way to go, there would be carryover to other grips and it seems the safest. I recall that it also gives the highest ROM

So I obviously don't know your situation, but if you are relatively fit, go to your nearest college drinking area and make a goal; talk to girls. Since you are at a bar, you can have one or two drinks, get a little liquid courage, and then talk to some sluts. granted, you will probably get rejected quite a few times if you are really awkward, but the worst that can happen is that someone says no and you are back to square one. keep doing that and learning how to talk to them and keep trying to get them to have sex. the more you try the more likely you will be to succeed. at least thats what helped me.

Hey lads, juat some basic hints how to get bigger muscle:
You need to reduce the weight your with, up the amount of reps and do slower reps really focus on the contraction.
Bigger muscles will also help you to lift more, so consider it.

Interesting.

Well it's obviousl every single lifter in the thread would benefit greatly from gaining some knowledge in how to gain muscle mass the best way and applying this knowledge to their accessory.

And by that I obviously mean muscle mass for muscles that are relevant to the sport. To debunk what the other anon countered with.

I understand that you do not use maximal weights for your main lifts. Obviously you use percentages that are more like around 75-80% most of the time.

I am, however, talking about building muscle mass efficiently.
That is what you do accessory for, right? To build muscle. To add hypertrophy. Because the main lifts are not really good at building muscle.

And these accessory is what I am talking about. These you should do BB style.

Well, they are not optimal. For them to be optimal, you would have to do them in a different style - bodybuilding style. More reps, more focus on hypertrophy.

But that you don't want to do. Understandable, it's not your sports goal.

So instead of touching your main lifts in order to gain more muscle mass, you touch your accessory.
This way you still end up with less muscle mass than someone that trained BB style entirely, but not as much as if you also fucked up the way you do your accessory.

honestly there should be height limits for these twink classes
what made this guy think "yeah I should compete in the 59kgs instead of just fucking eating more"
>>
Can squats be replaced with hack squat deadlifts?

How to squat comfy? High bar feels awful and my mobility isn't even that bad, my knees just ache and I feel slack. I might try a lower bar position and just squat without exaggerated knees or hips.

just finished thunderbolt (first gundam)
what should I watch next?

Gundam 0083 stardust memory
Or

You can go to nationals with those stats? I could've done that as a teenager after lifting for a couple months

Wish I had known fuck
>>
>>39066103

I used to engage my delts into the lift and my upper pecs did most of the work. Ive been trying to pinch my shoulders for about a year and its been only holding me back. Rotators are safe but i fuck up wrists and hams anyway.
>>
Can you do all 3 lifts in deadlift slippers? I've never actually researched this
>>
>>39065479
Lack of replies to this is silent confirmation ye?

>Wish I had known fuck
you arent missing out on much
they qualifying total is so low everyone with a local meet under them can go
theres like a 1000 lifters going most of which are completely irrelevant to the point that they picked out the good lifters to lift at a different time 'prime time'

they need to up the qualifing total but they probably make too much money to want to change it
>>
>>39066520
its counted as a shoe so yes
>>
Has anything good happened yet? I really like how they're putting the top QTs for 74 and 83 all in the same session so I can watch them all live later.

>>39065799
I wish I had thought to hold the axe the right way
>>
>>39066520
Yes
>>
>>39066527
I think they might have raised it for the open?

If you're any kind of junior or collegiate it's very low tho

Post hype pls. Maxing binch and now cold turkey off pills.

I'll start.

raaaaarrrrr
>>
>>39066560
if there is over 1000 lifters at nationals it needs raised more, there is clearly enough lifters that would qualify with a higher limit to fill a meet so its not like they need them low to fill it
