Why don't you do barbell rows?
But I do
Why do you post normie maymays?
What are rows good for?
I do. Pendlay rows are GOAT.
I do yates rows
Is doing barbell rows with fix bars beta?
I do, but I can see why others don't.
One bad move and your back is permanently fucked.
>>39060492
Absolutely nothing..say it with me, rows good gawd
>>39060518
any thing with a fixed bar is
Currently doing rows...stuck at 135 forever. Going to try 155...hope I don't snap my back.
>>39060475
i do though.
i'm doing PHUL right now.
currently at 3x5 70kg/idk ca 150lbs? (incl. bb)
i know that probably not a lot, but I'm just a beginner.
Not wasting valuable time on a meme muscle group like the back
>>39060518
T bar row? I do that, I find the limiting factor in barbell rows is my lower back (not upper or biceps), which is fried after heavy deadlifts.
>not rowing using a hex bar
>not gonna make it
How else are you supposed to row?
Rows for the sluts
Donald Trump that bitch...too soon?
>>39060542
> (incl. bb)
You're dumb enough to take people saying you shouldn't count the bar serious, aren't you?
>>39060575
yup.
>>39060575
LMAO
>>39060475
Old lower back injury.
Nothing else hurts anymore, but DB rows are all I can do to avoid those little twinges that run from the lumbar to my right hip and down the goddamned leg
T-Bar Rows are King
Prove me wrong
>>39060492
Judo is the most useless of all combat sports
>>39060575
DAFUQ NIGGA, YOU DON"T COUNT THE BAR!!!! LAMOOOOOOOO LAME DYEL
DO you see ANY numbers on the bar indicating its weight???
>2016
>counting the bar
>>39060475
how do barbell rows compare to DB rows?
My main back exercise is weighted pullups, are barbells better for building a bigger back?
Lets make this a back routine thread. I have two back days.
Tuesday:
powercleans 5x5
yates rows 5x10
dumbell rows 4x12
pullups failurex3
rear delt flys: 4x12
curlz, abz, farmers walks
Saturday:
deadlift: 5x5
pendlay rows: 5x10
lat pulldowns: 4x12
pullups: failurex3
facepulls: 4x12
curlz, abz, farmers walks
>>39060736
3xfailure on them pullups rather. Been smoking too much, famalams.
>>39060695
>implying any of them are useful
buy a gun and learn how to use it. theyre only good for keeping you in shape and for the fun of competing.
>>39060731
DB rows are a bit more stable, especially if you do them unilateral. If you're using the same cheat on both, then I've found the end weight to be the almost the same. The big diff is that I can bust out a ton of sets at 5-10 reps with short rest using DB, but ask me to do that with a barbell ad I'll be sucking air.
Just do some more core work to even it out.
>>39060780
good to know, thanks man
>>39060780
I actually get more winded doing the db rows since its twice the overall reps my fatass has to do for the same actual volume.
I like both, though, and a variety of rows is best.
>>39060703
You can't be serious, the standard Olympic bar is 44.1 pounds
What's better, pendlay rows or normal rows?
>>39060828
Pendlay hits rear delts, romboids, and traps hard, a more yates type row is more lats and traps. Variety is good
>>39060475
I've been doing front lever rows variations.
Hell the only weights I lift anymore is squat, deadlift, tricep extensions and bicep curls everything else body weight.
>>39060475
I can't get them right, so I do dumbbell rows instead
>>39060852
It's cuz your weak
>>39060611
Sounds like a pinched nerve bro
Op here, nothing but a bunch of bull shit excuses.
If you don't do rows, you can't expect the hoes
> 2016
>not worshiping our Lord and Savior pussy snatcher Trump
>>39060966
Was a pinched nerve due to a disc bulge.
Disc healed up fine on it's own over the course of a year or so.
The good of the situation was I got real serious about stretching and "prehab" every fucking day. I feel more solid and can move more weight & volume than I used to.
I can't do any variation BB rows because it hurts my hips. DB rows cause a pinch in my right shoulder.
I do weighted chin ups, pull ups, and high rep inverted rows instead.
Anyone do any wide grip deadlifts? I heard they were pretty good for lats and upper back.
>>39060475
>barbell rows
>actually a tulip
>>39060695
>implying
>>39060527
underrated, overbaited
Because weighted pullups+unilateral lat pulldowns is superior
>that functional strength from pullups
>that full stretch and contraction in the muscle from unilateral pulldowns
plus no qt's are gonna mire your rows, but if you can even chin up 25lb added for a couple reps everyone thinks you're a beast despite it being a relatively low weight cuz most people cant do a bodyweight chin
>>39060759
Kys amerifat
>>39060527
rows, ugh, what is it good for
Are cable rows a suitable replacement?
>>39060475
Pull-ups>>>>>>>>>
>39060801
Ur a scrub bruh the bar is weightless
>>39063025
>plus no qt's are gonna mire your rows, but if you can even chin up 25lb added for a couple reps
Can confirm.
>I could do good ~16 bw chinups since i have a pullup bar i fuck around every day at home.
>Go to gym and put 25lb on belt
>Pretty easy, do few series of 10-8 good reps
>Notice girls mirin, like im doing some crazy heavy shit + arms look huge while being streched on the bar under pump
>That never happened with rows no matter how big the weight was
r8 my pull day
>5x5 heavy ass lat pull down
>3x10 wide grip pull up
>3x10 dumbbell rows
>3x10 seated cable row
>3x10 dumbbell shrugs
>>39065218
Even if you're too much of a fag to do curls, you should do face pulls for shoulder health.
>>39065218
Are the pull ups weighted?
I'd do 5x5 weighted pullups, then use the lat pulldown machine afterwards.
>>39065342
Just body weight pull ups. I find it really hard to go beyond body weight.
>>39065231
I'm also doing weighted dips on push day. I guess it's good bye arms by 30?
>>39060533
How do you snap your back from rows...
>>39065361
Progress slowly. It's meant to be hard.
>>39060665
>t-bar rows
>not fully lifting the bar off the ground
>king
You just find it king cause it allows you to do more then lmao1pl8 you weak cunt
If you had to choose guys would it be chinup or row?
Row. I've always felt rows activate the lats and upper back more satisfactorily than pull ups.
>>39060475
bb rows are pretty shitty
DB rows, chest supported rows of any kind are all better
even cable rows are better
I can't get a good form and I do not have friends or anyone to help.
>>39065576
actually bb rows are great and the other stuff you said is bad
>>39065660
>>39065576
i just dont know who to believe
>>39065611
post a video here, friendless anon, and have people critique your form
>>39060526
how? just row a lighter weight with proper form jesus...
>>39065771
"bad" is relative to your own body. Just like some people can press behind the neck beacause of high mobility in shoulders w/o hurting themselves
>>39063025
you realise those are 2 completely different movements right ? Vertical pulls build a wide back, horizontal pulls build a thick back. Point being you should do Pullups AND Rows not one or the other.
>>39060475
Whenever I attempted to do barbell rows, I occasionally felt a sharp pain in my lower back, so I gave up.
Then I fixed my form (strengthening my hamstrings/hips/ass was the key, thanks scott) and I also started doing foam rolls and lower back stretching.
Barbell rows are one of my favorite lifts now.
>>39060475
long torso + bad back = excessive risk of injury
>>39065909
Just pick one and be completely sure that your form is good, then decide for yourself instead of falling for meme broscience
>>39065660
get your barbell rows to 225 for reps and then tell me how great they are
and then when you're tired of annihilating your lower back just to get a mediocre upper back workout, you'll start doing other row variants
any supported row variant puts much less stress on your lower back and you can hammer your back with much higher volume and get better gains as a result
although i guess if you don't train with particularly high deadlift or squat volume then using barbell rows as a primary movement would be perfectly fine, i would just rather stress my low back more with deadlifts and squats than bb rows
>>39065912
Explain how that works.
Your muscles don't choose to grow one way just because of the position they're in. If you're working a specific muscle then it's going to grow the same.
Point to the "thicker" lats muscle though that isn't hit by chins or pull ups
>>39065912
You are literally retarded
>>39065998
Vertical Pulls like a Pullup focus more on the Lats whereas Horizontal Pulls focus more on Traps/Rear Delts and lower Back.
Lats make you wide, the rest makes your back pop out better.
>>39065783
I'm a skinny fat azn manlet who uses a tiny office gym and shy as fuck. I think I'll try it a few more times and if I still suck I'll switch to dumbbell rows instead. I can do that without issues since I can get my posture right with the bench.
>>39065998
there's a little more to it than that
rows are a good idea because your shoulder undergoes external rotation, most other exercises you do (pressing) are internal rotation, chins and iirc pullups are also internally rotating
there's a reason powerlifters swear by rows for shoulder health
>>39066026
Oh good. Nevermind then.
I thought you were just trying to say it gives you thicker lats.
Though it's remedied by wide grip pulls and shrugs, but I see your point.
>>39066026
How in the fuck
If your barbell rows focus more on rear delts and lower back then your form is just shit
>>39066205
yeah lower back shouldnt have been there, was thinking of something else.
but rear delts definitely get developed by horizontal pulls. just think about facepulls for example. horizontal pulls doesnt mean only strict barbell rows.
>he doesn't do seated rows to focus on his back
