Hypothesis: If you do a lot of upper body intensive sports and have good GPP then your bench will be good

Data recorded: Swimmers, wrestlers, and others have good benches. People who don't didn't do sports are either shit benchers, or shit everythings. Also the girl who did martial arts has a fucking amazing bench for a girl.

Conclusion: GPP, calisthenics, and high volume/endurance upper body work helps bench. Do your push-ups lads.

Additional evidence: I have a shit bench cause I do no upper body intensive sports, but my squat is relatively good (165 kilos at 66kg bodyweight in 9 months of training). I have always done shittons of biking and running, even when I used to be a lardass.

What do you guys think: Being good at sports makes you be good at lifting weights

For example: 4x6-8 on the Bench
Let's say the first set I do 7 reps with 225 but I know that the next rep I'll fail to complete. Then maybe do 7 again but grinding a little bit more, then dropping weight to make 7 reps again like 220.
Or choosing a weight that I know I can make 4x7 easy. Then next workout try to make 4x8, then 4x6 adding a little bit of weight and repeat.

Was benching today lads. Shoulders and elbows started to feel fucking awful so I did 4x15 reverse delt flies on an incline bench with 10lb dumbbells then 5x5 pull-ups and I felt amazing

Also set a small bench PR under bad conditions - 230 for 1 after 2 singles at 220 and 225, high rep deadlifts, and not sleeping much. I know my bench is still shit but I'm pretty happy bout it. I feel like I'm due for a big PR in a couple months...

Probably this. I started lifting in late 2014 (August/september) and hit a 140kg deadlift before the year was over. Compare that to 3 weeks ago where I didn't even get 160x1. Everytime I got a tiny bit of soreness or discomfort in my back, I just backed right the fuck off.

Could be leverages though which caused that, I'm doing sumo now and it just feels right. Conventional always felt awkward for some reason.

The internet ruined me for deadlifts, so many stories of people fucking up their backs for life brought out the hypochondriatic side of me. Sumo is great though, I should've swapped to it much earlier. I'm sure it'll catch up quickly though due to my already established leg strength.

It doesn't end up benefiting everyone, but when it does the difference is often big enough to be worthwhile. Probably moreso if you're already going to have to move your grip out to get on the smooth. So its definitely worth at least getting competent with even if you don't end up using it full time.

Looks kind of like you can't keep a good and tight arch because of your position when you unrack, and then you don't have that much control of the bar during the descent, causing you to have to make the bar move from a dead position rather than utilising the stretch reflex fully. Since you're not that tight your ass/legs are kind of flailing when you have to push from the chest.

Work on form, especially keeping a tight position during the unracking. Watch JP Cauchi's video on unracking, it's pretty good.

I really like the routine, but the lack of back and shoulder work is abit concerning for me.

I typically do side raises and face pulls twice a week, and a row and machine pull 2 times a week to compensate.
