Am I fucking up by not following a set-in-stone workout routine? I started SS with dips and curls. Then eventually started doing everything I can on alternating days.
Am I slowing my potential progress this way?
I wouldn't say I'm doing a BRO SPLIT, but an inbetween bro split and SS routine.

Yes, if you are not tracking your progress in any structured way.

Just follow 531 progression, thank me later
Protip dont do the deload weeks

Not really.
Anything is better then nothing.Just make sure you at least do a pull for every push and have a balanced routine.

yo 5/3/1 is no joke. This is coming off of about 3 weeks of a PPL that I just wasnt feeling and started to slack off. 5/3/1 is just simple enough that I dedicate all of my possible energy to just those few workouts per gym trip. I am in there for about 45 minutes and I am leaving with a better pump and a better burn than I had any day of PPL. If you are adding lifts because you think you arent doing well enough, you need to go heavier. After 50 chin ups I have literally no desire to do any more bicep exercises.
>pic related as to what I would consider realistic expectations from just working on a solid "Big 4" 5/3/1 program.
as long as you focus on progression you'll be fine
a strict routine will get you faster results
but if you're just lifting recreationally a couple of times per week
then just keep track of your progress and lift was you please
I like to follow a routine when my focus is gaining mass/strength. Just easier to track.
When I cut though, I tend to fuck around a lot more, with a few staples that I try to go hard on to maintain strength.

>this is what SS victims believe

Just make sure to know what are you doing and when, put attention on all of your muscles and leave them the proper time for heal
