In her defence, the acute nature of the symptoms are indicative of an allergic reaction. Most likely to one or more of the nuts. The rash is a telltale sign.

I'm not advocating such a diet for a child. I'm just saying that any problems from a lack of animal fat/protein would have manifested in much longer term symptoms.
