5-6 sets
5-7 reps

3 sets of 5 reps after my bench

Arnold didn't do Pendlay rows because they didn't exist back then.
>>
>>38975030
I still do them, but I've heard they are a ticket to snap city and other types of rows are better. I do 5x5 cause that's what SL says to do.

1/10 for making me reply

Is there any difference between the Pendlay Row and a Barbell roll? is the Pendlay the one that hangs in the air so you dont have to move your lower back to pick the weight up?
>>
>>38975030
Isn't that a Bent Over Row?

I thought Pendlay Rows were at 45 degrees?

What the fuck is happening?
>>
>>38975477
pendlays are supposed to touch the floor at the end of each rep
>>
>>38975500
Bent over rows are 45 degrees, pendlays are back parallel to floor

You got them backwards

Pendlay row =/= barbell row
>>
>>38975312
If anything they are a ticket away from snap city --- the deload at the bottom protects your lower back, unlike trying to grit through a set of 5 regular rows, like some kind of isometric good morning.
>>
Whats a Yates row?
>>
How to progress weight on rows?

Currently doing 175 lb, which is just over body weight for me. If I add on more weight, even like 5 lbs, I can't perform the movement without a lot of torso jerk, which defeats the purpose.
>>
OKAY GUYS IT'S TIME TO DECIDE

PENDLAY ROWS?
YATES ROW?
BENT-OVER ROW?
KROC ROW?
MEADOWS ROW?
CABLE ROWS?
T-BAR ROWS?

>>

quick question on these, where do you put your hands on the bar in relation to your shoulders? I like to put out at least a fistworth outside my shoulder

How does he have such little lower back curving when he's at the bottom of the row? Is it hamstring flexibility? If so can anyone recommend a stretching routine I should do that will improve said flexibility?

Stretch, 5+ times a week. Not rocket science. Stretch what needs it, and do it often. Do it after a work out/when you're warm, not a first thing after waking up.

Youtube/google is your friend for whatever is lagging. Omar had a few videos a little while ago with some physio dude that offered some stuff for legs/torso which is what most of us are poor at.

Try using a belt. Staying really tight during the whole pull helps avoid a jerk.
>>
>>38975516
Rest on the floor, I think.
>>
>>38975770
what's the difference? the bar is closer to thighs?
>>
pendlay rows are cool
I do 5x5
>>
>>38975838
Kroc row ftw

>tfw 1arm rowing somebody's squat max for 10 reps
>>
>>38975030
I do them. They fucking suck but I do them. (they suck as in I hate doing them, not they suck as in they are a shitty exercise)

I do various sets and reps cause I'm doing C6W, anything from sets of 10 to sets of 5 or 6.
>>
>>38976998
Pendlay rows return to the floor each rep and is a more explosive pull than a standard row, where the bar is in you hands through the set and doesn't come to a stop at any point. Inb4 the OP shows Arnold with the bar on the floor. I guarantee he just picked it up and rowed it without returning to that starting position.
>>
>>38975059
Better for what? Yates rows are good if you need to focus on your traps and other smaller muscles

How do I do Kroc rows properly?
I want to do them but don't want to look like an ass and fuck up my back/arms.
>>
>>38976843
That's one thing I can say for P90X, it got me into the routine of stretching before and after working out. I haven't done it in years, but I'm still stretching at the gym. I never see anybody else doing it. Why is stretching so uncommon? I thought people here were joking at first when they complained about flexibility in their ankles, hamstrings, shoulders, etc.
>>
>>38975030
5 sets of 6 to 8 after i do weighted pull ups, usually, also i don't let the barbell touch the ground
>>
>>38975838
>it depends
>>
Guys am I cheating them?
They're my best lift by far so I doubt I deserve that
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APHjj8k3eno

I have trouble keeping my back horizontal because of hamstring flexibility.
Can I bend my legs even more to accomodate that or are they already too much?
I also realized I've been using a DL grip, which is too narrow, maybe widening it will help me stay more horizontal and swing less
>>

Pendlay is back flat and knees slightly bent. I've always done shoulder width grip which is really narrow considering what I see guys do. But Dorian says narrow is best for lat activation. I like working overhand because it works brachioradialis well.
>>
>>38977943
They're meant to be heavy as hell and high rep, so you're going to use a lot of body english. "properly" doesn't really apply.
>>
>>38978155
Doesn't look explosive enough
>>
>>38975838
I love kroc rows, moving loadsa weight with 1 arm is too fun. Really gets your lats going too.

That said, I do pendlay, 1 arm concentrated dumbell rows and bent over rows as well, been meaning to start throwing in tbar rows
>>
>>38975500
it's called a barbell row. there's no such thing as a "pendlay row", it's just that pendlay explained the regular barbell row at some point and for some bizarre reason some people started calling it pendlay row.
>>
>keep bumping the bar on my knees on the way up
Haven't been doing them long, this is the only thing that bothers me
>>
>>38975059
Yates rows are for idiots. Bonus points if they put the bar on a rack with pins just below waist height. Super bonus points if they use straps. Final destination if they use momentum for every rep.
>>
>>38975030
Why do I always get shoulder impingement and feel like my arm is going to pop out of it's socket when I do these?
>>
My personal opinion is that the focus with them should be on 5 reps. IOW, if you think you've picked a weight you can do for 5 and you can do 8, do 8, then add a little more, repeat process.
>>
>>38980025
Agree. I mean, the exercise is named for him, and yet I'd place dollars to donuts that's what led to his career ending injury.

I know it sucks that Pendlay rows aren't much of a pure bodybuilding movement because it's better when done for low reps and it has a low time under tension with each rep. But most of the other variations become dangerous, goofy exercises that work traps as much as anything.
>>
>>38980029
That's weird because I get impingement on many back exercises but not Pendlay rows. I wonder if you're not exploding enough on the positive part of the rep and if you're trying to squeeze at the top. It isn't that kind of exercise.
>>
>>38975030
what's the difference between pendlay rows and barbell rows?
>>
>>38975838

Bor followed by t bar for rhomboids
>>
>>38975030
No because theyre not functional exercise
>>
>>38980181
>explosive lat strength isn't functional
>>
>>38980160
Pendlay row = setting up like you're going to do a deadlift and exploding the bar up from the floor.
>>
I do lever rows instead
>>
>>38980201
Oh? When is the last time you did that movement outside of the gym?

Well yeah i kinda did that with your mum, but still
>>
>>38975838
pendlay rows for strength (rep ranges ~8), followed by cable rows for hypertrophy (~15 reps)

>>
>>38980247

>>
>>38980241
When's the last time you had to use your back and arms to pull something towards your chest?

What the fuck are you even asking? Rows of any variety are a common movement in real life. Row a boat, pull open a door that's stuck, help someone up off the floor.
>>
Yes I do them
5 sets, 9-12 reps per every set
>>
>>38980271
Yeah, I suppose that's not good advice because the bar is slightly more forward and the back is nearly parallel to the ground, with the grip being similar to bench press width.

I was trying to get across that it's performed from a dead stop, but actually gave dangerous advice.
>>
>>38980160
bb rows, the bar doesnt touch the ground until you're done with the set.
more grip work, more traps, back is at some angle to floor
pendlay, eccentric part is not used, explosive from the groud, back is parallel to ground
>>
>>38975838

Dumbbell Row, Bent Over Row and Pendlay Row are all good.

Cable is also fine as an assistance. All others are complete bullshit.
>>
>>38980280
When I pick something up off the floor I like to keep it in my hand for at least 20 seconds while I do a herky jerky movement with my torso at about a 45 degree angle while staring at myself in a mirror. So standard bber rows are functional for me.
>>
>>38980280
Thats not what functional means you actual retard.
>>
>>38980459
lmao ur an idiot bud
>>
>>38975312
No matter how hard I try I can't avoid being injured doing pendlays. I always fuck up somehow and I'm out with lower back spasming and my ciatic nerve being pinched.
I've tried four times. I just avoid it.
>>
>>38975030
5x5
>>
>>38980459
There's not much you can do in a gym that looks like something you do in every day life or in a sport.

I think what you're getting at is you consider say, chins a functional exercise and not rows. And that's fine, the world won't end if somebody doesn't do rows. But Pendlay rows 1. Are sort of a tie in between functional strength developed by chins and functional strength developed by squats and deads and 2. develop back thickness, which chins only do up to a certain point
