4x8 you fucking SS pig

5x5 cuz i don't want a pencil dick
5x5 if you're a beginner
after you get to some respectable weight, look into already reputable intermediate and advanced programs to go from there.
You don't see a shredded guy struggling to bench 135lbs for 8 reps, let's just say that.

If you're a beginner, then do whatever you want as long as you're putting more weight on the bar every week.
If you're experienced then you're going to have to continue to do what you want, but you'll have a better understanding of how your body works under different stressors.
Just get in there and go hard.

4x8. I tried 5x5 and I just didnt improve as much as on 4x8.
One day of the week I'll pick a big lift and do 5-3-1.

Do people really put weight on the bar EVERY week? I go to Planet Fitness because that's what we've got and I've stuck to dumbbells, since smith machines are meme machines and there are no free barbells. Adding weight to my bench, for instance, every week would me going up 5 lbs per dumbbell, or 10 lbs total to the press every week. That seems insane. How does anyone do it unless they deliberately start with 5 lb DBs and work their way up little by little each week until they start lifting actual weight?

If your a beginner or out of practice, I just started lifting again after years and started way under what I used to do, but have no problem adding weight every week. I also have the benefit of working out in my University's Rec center, and have the benefit of having 2.5 lb increments for DBs.
