It will go away soon. If you stop for 2 days or more because of it, it will come back. You don't stop. Your body will adjust in no time.

It really depends on the way it hurts.

Doms don't feel like sprains don't feel like strains don't feel like tendonitis don't feel like micro-fractures don't feel like tears don't feel like broken bones.

A feeling of general fatigue when you try to utilize the muscle coupled with a lingering all-over soreness of that muscle? Most likely DOMS. Be not afraid.

If it feels sharp, affects a minor portion of your muscle group, is extremely limited in motion (as in, any further and it feels like you will snap if you go too quickly in the movement), if you feel movement in any way impinged, then you done goofed and should seek immediate medical aid.

It's just doms, you only get that when you haven't lifted in a long time/ever. Your muscles won't feel sore after workouts after a week or two.

Why would you do too much in your first week, that is a rookie mistake. So next week you will be too sore to go back and will never be in the gym again.
Take it easy and work your way into the gym.
