What's /fit/'s opinion on the effectiveness of German Volume Training?

Do you have to be juicing to do this kind of training program?

Article on it here: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/luis13.htm

You pretty much have to be juicing or coming off a long period of low rep training (in which case the soreness is going to be disgusting) for it to really work. It's not effective as a longterm program, nor was it ever really intended to be.

Have you ever tried it yourself? If so, what kind of results did you see?
>>
Im coming off of juicing and 5/3/1+GVT+Extra Shit. It's too much volume to recover from at 60% like you're suppose to. I do 60-70% for pressing movements but only 50% for squats and 40% DL weight for RDLs.

Yeah. I did it with slightly different lifts for a laugh coming off a meet, happy just to get away from heavy lifts and worrying about making weight. Fairly typical results - blew up fast to start with by packing on a ton of glycogen weight but the dry muscle gains weren't really anything I couldn't have gotten with a more standard hypertrophy-focused routine. Conditioning got better thanks trying to survive 10x10 squatting (I used box squats to try and make things slightly easier on recovery), max strength went down which was entirely expected.

I did like it though, but I'm the sort of person who'd rather do a ton of sets on a few exercises than a few on several exercises.

Who the fuck has time to do 10 sets of 10 reps? I remember a workout of 5x5 would somehow always end up me taking almost 90 minutes
>>
>>38889190
Rest is for pussies
>>
>>38889190
5x5 shouldn't take even more than twenty minutes tops. Just rest two to three minutes you dweeb.
